If through long use or abuse, your Hayward Slide Valve Handle and Piston Assembly is no longer useable but the Body Assembly is still functional, you may elect to replace the Assembly. This guide shows you how easy it is to replace this Assembly.

Step by Step

Top

Step 1

TURN POWER OFF - Make sure that power to the pump is turned OFF before you open up the Slide Valve.

Step 2

REMOVE BONNET NUT - Unscrew the Bonnet Nut counter-clockwise to free it from the Body Assembly.

Step 3

PULL OUT SHAFT ASSEMBLY - Pull straight up on the Handle to lift it and the Shaft Assembly out of the Body Assembly

Step 4

REPLACE SHAFT ASSEMBLY - When you slide the new Shaft Assembly into the Valve Body Assembly, note the notch in the Body Assembly and the lug on the Bonnet. Ensure that these line up when you insert the Shaft Assembly.

Step 5

SECURE BONNET NUT - Screw the Bonnet Nut clockwise back onto the Body Assembly. Hand tighten.

Hello Jason - Yes, the handle and piston assembly should pull all the way out.

I can take the bonnet off, and pull unit "Most of the way" out, but seems like it gets hung up, like on the seal. I didn't want to pull too hard, but you're saying the shaft unit will come all the way out?

Stuck slide valve - With the bonnet nut off the shaft assembly should lift straight up. If the slide valve hasn't been used for a while, it might be corroded. Try dripping a solution of TSP into the valve to dissolve the corrosion. Then try working the valve up and down in short lengths to free it. If that doesn't work, you may have to replace the whole valve.
