What is the benefit of the clear solar blanket over the blue one?

First, the clear solar blanket is thicker than the blue; the clear is 12 mil thick while the blue is 8 mil. Secondly, the clear allows the sun to pass through the blanket thus heating the water better. The blue blanket tends to absorb the heat itself so the blanket gets hot, not the water. Lastly, the clear blanket has a 5 year warranty as opposed to the 3 year warranty for the blue.

Does the solar cover come with an overlap like a winter cover does?

No, the solar cover does not come with an overlap. A solar cover is designed to sit on top of the water's surface and fits on the inside perimeter of the pool wall.

Can this be used as a leaf cover as well since it covers the surface of the pool?

No- Solar blankets float on top of the water, so once weight is added it will begin to take on water and eventually sink to from the weight.

Awl to make bolt holes.
I unpacked and spread out the new solar cover on the pool deck.
Pulled the cover over the pool.
Extended the straps from the solar reel.
Use an awl to make holes for the plastic bolts and holders.
Fastened the cover holders into place.
