Thank you for contacting Inyopools Bill. Our Return Policy is that the item be new and unused. Please keep the original packaging and must be within 30 days. I called the manufacturer ( Blue Wave 800-759-0977 ) and was told the warranty is 1 year.

Does this need to be immersed in the water or is there an intake hose that can be placed in the water instead?

The pumps are fully submersible and remove water to within 1/8" of the pool cover. Comes complete with garden hose adapter and 25-ft cord. UL-approved. There are no intake hoses provided.

Can you leave this laying on top of your winter pool cover all winter? Or do you place it whenever you need the water pumped off the cover?

Although the product is durable, I would recommend only using the pump to remove water when needed and storing it when not in use.

Pros: easy to use
Cons: can't shut off auto switch
Works well, wish the base were wider for better support, also need to purchase a check valve or anti-siphon device for the hose as the on/off kicks on and off as the back flow from the hose flowed back onto the cover.

This is a great pump for the money. I have bought other pumps in the past but they were more expensive and did not do any better than this one. All I had to do was take it out of the box and plug it up.
