How does the dual speed feature of this pump work?
Reply
Some dual speed pumps have a toggle switch in the back of the motor to change speeds manually, but many do not. Generally you would need to tie this dual speed pump into one of our dual speed pump timers/controllers. One of the more popular models is the Digital PE153 series. This timer has 3 functions: one to turn the pump on and off, a second auxiliary to switch from high speed to low speed, and then a third for any other piece of pool equipment. You may view these controllers through the following link: Intermatic Timers

I have a Hayward NorthStar that I am looking to replace. The only one's I see all have a threaded union connection. Do you still carry the one with the Quad lock?
Reply
Unfortunately Hayward discontinued the Quad Lock design on the NorthStar pump models in 2007. The housing on the newer pumps is a threaded design and re-plumbing would be necessary.

My pool pump (SP4010x152NS) is about 17 years old its still running fine , not sure for how long . Since Hayward has discontinued this product , please let me know what Hayward pump you recommend for its replacement (with min re pluming). Also this is a 2-speed motor and I have never used the low speed so if there is a single high speed pump that will work with min plumbing please let me know. Thanks much Philip

(4 out of 5 stars) Good pump
Reviewed By: mr white from Madison, MS ()
Pros: Strong flow and quiet
Cons: Pipe fittings changed from older model
Replaced the same model pump from previous owner which wasn't performing as well as it should. Unfortunately the pipe connections changed from 1/4 turn fittings to threaded fittings so installation wasn't as easy as I hoped. New pump works great and is back to a nice quite operation.

(5 out of 5 stars) Great pump for older pool w/ smaller lines
Reviewed By: Boomer from Washington (St. Louis area) Missouri ()
Pros: Quite and pumps as well as Hayward Super
Cons: Big: Make sure you have enough room to install
Was looking to upgrade my pump after 40 years(Had rebuilt the old Hayward a couple times and case was starting to have broken edges). Chose the Northstar series for its newer features. Wanted higher pressure, but learned that would probably blow my lines. Really like this pump.
