How many hours per day should I run my pump?
 Reply

There are many factors to consider; bather load, gallons of water, pump horsepower, type and size of filter just to name a few. A good guideline is 8-10 hours a day. On the cooler days and early and late season, you can cut the run time down to 4-6 hours because there is usually less swimmers and cooler water requires less chemicals. In peak season, when it is the hottest, raising the run time to 10-12 hours per day will help to keep the pool clean and circulating during it’s time of heaviest use.

My old hayward motor died, it was a 1.5 hp a.o. smith. Would like to replace entire pump with a Hayward SP3200VSP Tristar Variable Speed. Will this work?

Hi Bill - Yes you could replace your 1.5 HP Hayward pump with the Tristar variable speed pump. For this pump we would suggest that you have a minimum of 2" plumbing. You will see a considerable savings on your electrical bill by upgrading to a variable speed pump, up to 90% energy savings!

In most single-speed or dual-speed pump electrical wiring configurations, timers are used to provide power to the pump; one timer on a single speed; two timers on a dual speed (one a hi/low). Looking at the Tristar VS Variable Speed Pump wiring schematic, it seems that no timers are required whatsoever, and that the onboard pump control circuitry is used to turn the pump on and off, etc., without having to use any timers whatsoever. Is my understanding correct?

That is correct.  The Tristar SP3200VSP model has a 24-hour clock built into it.  The Hayward Tristar VS Pump Owners Manual has details on configuring the timer.

Hi. Looking to replace a 1.5 HP Hayward single speed pump. Will this pump work (and will it work efficiently) on a pool with 2" suction plumbing and 1.5" return plumbing?

Hello Dave - The SP3200VSP pump will be more energy efficient and it will work for your application.

Can you provide the dimensions (LxWxH) of the shipping carton for the Hayward Tristar VS? I understand the weight is 52 pounds, but I also need the dimensions.

The boxed dimensions are roughly 26" L x 14" W x 14" H

Motor failing on old pump

Written on 7/23/2019 by Guest

After removing the old pump, the wiring was installed into new water tight seal-tite. New terminals were crimped and installed on the end going into the pump. Once connected, it was bolted in place and new PVC was cut to attach the pump to the existing plumbing.

Read the instructions, take your time, and assess the situation. Pump replacement is a straightforward install. Prep the job and get the tools BEFORE you start! It will save you time and frustration in the long run!
