Does the top-center opening on the filter not need be covered with some handle or cover ? Our current filter has a cover-handle. If it is open how can I pull it out of the filter housing ?

Hi Regina, You do not need a handle to remove the Hayward Easy Clear C-550 55 Sq Ft Replacement Cartridge. Once you unscrew the locking ring for the filter lid, you would just pull the filter out.
