Will a gas heater operate at the low speed of a dual speed motor?

Probably not - Most gas heater will shut off at low GPM levels (20-40) to keep the heater cores from overheating - 20 for 200 BTUs, 40 for 400 BTUs. Depending on your pool system you might get these GPM levels at the low speed but generally these heaters must be run at the motor's high speed.

can this unit work off propane instead of natural gas

Hi Joseph, Unfortunately Laars (Jandy) heaters do not have gas conversion kits. You will need to replace the burner tray, or buy the gas valve, pilot and burner tray orifices separately. For other manufacturers, including Pentair (Purex), Hayward and Raypak - you can buy a pool heater conversion kit

Can I install my LXi 300N pool heater inside my house in my basement? I live in Ontario, Canada
Hello Max. According to the manufacturer, the Jandy Heater LXi 300N can be installed indoors. Please consult the Jandy Website (download for H0286900 Jandy Pro Series LXi Gas-Fired Pool and Spa Heater Manual) for specific information concerning indoor installations as well as Canadian regulations that must be adhered to. Along with the installation parameters that must be satisfied, for an additional safety measure, Zodiac Pool Systems strongly recommends the installation of suitable Carbon Monoxide detectors in the vicinity of the heater and in any adjacent occupied spaces.
