Hi Diann.  The manufacturer does not recommend leaving the cleaner in the pool any longer than necessary.  Be sure to take it out as soon as possible after it completes its cleaning cycle.  Aggressive water conditions and leaving the cleaner and cable in the pool for repeated, extended periods of time can degrade the cable as well as other parts of the cleaner.
