What is the difference between a 'Full Rate' pump and an 'Up Rate' pump?
Reply
Hi Dan, Basically a 1 HP full rate pump is equivalent to a 1-1/2 HP up rate pump. We have a good article here on The Difference Between Up & Full Rate Pool Pumps which goes into more detail on this topic.

Is the HP the only difference between model 343233 and model 343234? If so, would model # 343234 be less likely to burn out? we have replaced #343233 several times in 7 years of operation. Would moving to #343234 eliminate this issue?

Sometimes when the motor is under sized compared to the impeller the motor will burn out. If you want to send me a part number off the impeller or a model number from the pump I can help you with that. Also, if you want to send me how many gallon pool you have with the amount of head you have from the pump to the main drain. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you soon.

What does this mean and how do I calculate it?
"amount of head you have from the pump to the main drain"
I have a challenger 1 1/2 hp motor going bad and need to know if I should rebuild it or replace it. If I replace it how do I know what size HP pump to get for my 20k pool.

Hi, Andy. Feet of Head or Total Dynamic Head refers to the total equivalent height that a fluid will be pumped by taking into consideration any friction losses in the pipe. You can use these links to find out more about calculating the amount of head of your pool. (1) How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool (2) How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for My Pool?

I originally had a challenger high head high flow 1.5 hp motor on my inground pool. I replaced it once but would like to go back to the challenger. Is this Part # 343234 the same thing?
Thanks, Rob

Hi, Rob. This is not the same, you will need the Pentair Challenger CH 1-1/2 HP - CHII-N1-1-1/2A (Up Rate) or CHII-N1-1-1/2F (Full Rate).

Hi what’s replacement pump can I use for this? Here is a picture of the pump and motor. Also what is the pump seal kit I would need for this pump.
Do you need the whole pump or just the motor? If you are replacing the whole pump, you will not need a gasket kit.

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent Product

Pros: Exceptional flow
Cons: Suction seems a bit high while using my pool vac.
I had had an older Anthony brass pump which was already installed when I bought this house in 1988. The throughput always seemed low as I was always fighting to keep my pool clean and not green. Finally, it was leaking so much that I asked my local pool man for a pump. He recommended this one. And, boy, what a great pump! My water stays clean and clear; and the throughput is SO much greater than that older pump. I am so happy with this product. You can't go wrong with it.

The installation was easy since the new unit was the same model as the old one. One hitch I ran into was that the new basket strainer was cracked and I had to install the old strainer. I am assured that the replacement is on the way. So I can give the final rating of five stars.

(5 out of 5 stars) Replacement pump

Pros: The entire experience
Cons: Pissed I hadn't heard of this company sooner.
Stumbled upon INYOpools while searching online for a replacement. Their online 'chat' helper asked me about 5 questions about my existing pump and then produced a 'link' to the perfect replacement. It fit perfectly, was delivered faster than promised (with free shipping!), and worked better than hoped for. I could not be more pleased with the product or the company.

This pump is a real workhorse. Before installed our pool was having a tough time maintaining balance. Once installed, the water cleared up quickly and has stayed that way.
