What drives your cleaner is just as important as the cleaner itself. At the heart of the Polaris Booster Pump is a powerful, fast and durable MagneTek motor. This superior motor, coupled with Polaris quality and technology, sets the Polaris 380, 280 and 180 from all other pool cleaners.

What is a booster pump, and where does it attach to?

This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.

I have the quite pump. I appear to have a leak on the plate attached to the motor. Not sure why, it started in the summer and there is no vibration. I replaced about $50 in seals before I realized it was coming from the back of the plate. I see on the parts list that the plate may not be available without replacing the motor too. Please tell me that no one would design that part together. Is there no way to replace that plate? Thanks.

Unfortunately, with that pump the motor and seal plate assembly are built together.

Pros: Relatively easy to install
This is the 3rd booster pump that I've had for my Polaris cleaner. The original wasn't the quiet model and after a couple of years needed replacement due to the noise. I replaced with the quiet model and it developed a crack in the casing and had excessive leaking. I am reluctant to go with anything but the Polaris pump though.
