2 questions. 1. if this part is missing how does it effect the filter operation? 2. this part seems to get dirty and clogged up much more than the filter cartridge, how does clogging effect filter operation?

Hi, Ernie. This Air Bleed Filter, if missing will allow debris to go back into the pool as you can see from the dirt trapped in it. If it's clogged limited air will get through causing a longer time to bleed the air from your lines.
