Sandra - The Flow Director replaces the nozzle on your pool input return port so that you can direct the water flow downward. Not all return ports are adaptable.

Does the flow director have to b installed for the kreepy krauly lil shark to function properly? Or does it just direct the flow down? Why would I want the flow directed down?

Hi. This Flow Director - GW9014 is not required for the cleaner to work. It directs the flow downward so that a vortex or current is not created in the pool. That will prevent the cleaner from maneuvering properly.
