Pump had gone bad due to bad seal and salt water

Written on 9/6/2023 by Guest

Our pump had gone bad after only 2 years. We had replaced the old motor when we moved in and then converted to salt. We had failed to install a seal when we replaced the pump and after a couple seasons of salt water leaking into the pump it had fully corroded and locked up. We started with turning off the break and then disconnecting the power at the back of the pump. The rear cap needed to come off first of course. We then removed the four bolts but two where stuck because of age and corrosion so we used a cut off wheel at the pump side (since we where replacing it anyway) to cut off the old bolts. We then cleaned up the pump housing and began to prep the new pump. We replaced the pump, bearing and seal and used U.S. Seal LUBE 4OZ Bottle LUBE-4OZ to prepare the new pump shaft. We upgraded to the Pump Shaft Seal Assembly, Extra Heavy Duty for Saltwater Pools - PS-3866
bearing and spring for good measure, that turned out to be great choice and everything is super smooth now. We installed the new pump with a new housing gasket and new bolts and everything worked great.

Motor gave up the ghost

Step 1 Go to local pool store and get told the motor is bad and you might as well replace the pump as well... That will only be about $600.

Step 2 Check out Inyopools.com and enter in the relevant data. I found all the parts I needed and dropped them in the shopping cart... but wait, do I need this other gizmo???

Step 3 Chat with Inyopools.com. They looked at my shopping cart and ensured I had the right parts for my pump and I was now 100% confident.

Step 4 Parts arrive and I am ready to get to work.... but this pump seal, what side faces which way.

Step 5 Watch Inyopools.com videos on how to install a pump seal.

Step 6 Called Inyopools.com and the guy checked the part and the motor and we scoured over the exploded diagram and he explained to me how to install the pump seal.

Step 7 Installed pump seal and motor and plumbed everything back in. No leaks, no issues, no problem!
