Hi Ron, This rod does have a threaded end. You will have to insert the rod through the opening of the bottom manifold so the threaded end is upward. Then insert the threaded end through the opening on the top manifold then use the nut to secure the top and bottom manifold in place once the grids are installed within the manifold.
