Are the threads on both ends of the tie rod 1/2-13 UNC?

John, Unfortunately, we're unable to confirm. Hayward doesn't list the thread specification.

I have a Hayward 1200B canister and the lid pops off. I can't screw the top on tightly enough without it "stripping". Do I need to replace both the locking handle AND the tie rod? If so, how do I get the tie rod out? Thanks. Vince

Hi, Vince. If the Lid popped off with the tie rod still attached then the problem could be the filter base. If the rod is still secure in the base then the Locking Knob - CX900G, the tie rod tie rod rarely goes bad.

How do I remove the tie rod? Is there a trick to it? Using a pipe wrench it never turns easily and I don't want to keep turning past a quarter turn. Is there a set screw?

Vince, The tie rod is threaded into the tank body. If the filter is old, the threads in the tank body may be warped making it difficult to remove the rod.
