This straight pipe holder also called a dummy cell is used on the Hayward AquaRite, AquaTrol, and PureLine Crystal Pure Salt Systems. The dummy cell is used for several scenarios which we have listed below.
Winter: It is suggested that in areas of the country that you close your pool for the winter that you replace your normal cell with this dummy cell, the reason being is that the standard cell is expensive and by removing the standard cell you will prolong the cell's life.
Cell Cleaning: When you remove your normal cell for cleaning it is nice to have the dummy cell as you can replace the normal cell with the dummy cell so you continue to filter your pool while you clean your cell.
Spring Start-Up: The dummy cell is great to use during spring start up as quite often the pool can be quite dirty and you don't want large dirt and debris to get lodged in your standard salt cell.
Compatibility: For Hayward salt systems you will commonly see the following part #'s marked on your salt cell T-15, T-CELL-15, GLX-CELL-15, T-9, T-CELL-9, GLX-CELL-9, T-5, T-CELL-5, GLX-CELL-5, T-3, T-CELL-3, or GLX-CELL-3
What is the Hayward Straight Pipe Placeholder used for?

The Straight Pipe Placeholder is used to winterize the pool. It is recommend that the cell be removed for the winter. The Placeholder would take the salt cell's place. It is also used if the pool is ever chemically treated for stains.

Does this product come with both (TWO 2) GXL-Cell-Union Threaded Collars, TWO (2) Stub Pipes, and TWO (2) O-Ring gaskets?

Can this be used as a placeholder cell for the Jandy AquaPure PureLink 3?

Hi Bernard, we checked this dummy cell today against the Jandy AquaPure PureLink 3 and the length of the cell is the same length, however, the unions on the PureLink are larger than the unions on this placeholder cell, so this would not work on the Jandy AquaPure PureLink 3.

Will be buying the PL7707 (40k HD) system soon. I have a question about this dummy cell placeholder. We live in New Orleans, no ice during winter so we keep the pool open/running year round. Typically, I do not chlorinate the pool from dec to late feb. Once the new PL7707 is installed, is it better to leave the cell in for those 3mos or remove and use the dummy cell? Any issue leaving the Cell “in” and powered off? What are the pros and cons either way?

Hi, Mike. It's okay to have the cell installed with the chlorinator off. The dummy cell in your case will only be applicable for maintenance and servicing reasons like cell cleaning, spring startup etc. The dummy cell is a great accessory to have on hand.

biggest oil filter pliers I could get.

Went to AutoZone and bought the biggest oil filter pliers I could get. Loosened both of the PVC fittings and removed the dead salt cell. Inserted the bypass tube and tightened the PVC fittings at each end. Wa-Lah completed.

I have been using this dummy cell for the last couple of years. It works as advertised. I think it is important to store the salt cell safely during the off season.
