Product Disclaimer:
*Please Note: Some pools can expect less cooling if they have pebble (light or dark), quartz, tile, or dark plaster finishes due to the added heat load by these finishes from the sun. If your pool has a pebble finish (any color), quartz, tile, or any dark colored plaster bottom and your pool volume is close to the gallon limits above, you should go up one size when choosing your unit.

Can I install my self? What is the refrigerant? Must it be replenished?
Reply
Yes, anyone can install the pool cooler themselves. In the bottom basis in the box is the installation ,operation manual with diagram and parts list. You can go to a local hardware store and get the proper installation parts. There is no refrigeration, no freon or gas to operate. Electric 110 Volt 60 Hertz 8 Amps fan does the work. This unit hooks up with the pool pump breaker. The home breaker powering the pool pump and pool cooler must be 20 Amps or above.
Reply
Does the Glacier pool cooler have a thermostat? If not how do you regulate temperature?
Reply
The GPC does not come with a temperature control. In most cases an owner will run their cooler at night along with their pool's cycle. An owner may find that running the pool a longer or shorter amount of time will give them their optimal temperature.
Reply
Is this an evaporative cooler - or does it just cool water by running at night with lower temperatures? How does it work?
Reply
Yes, this system is based on evaporative cooling. The manufacture has modified the technology to accommodate the swimming pool industry. The pool water is circulated through the system while a fan cools the droplets and removes the heat from the water instantly. The water is then pumped back into the pool lines and circulated back into the pool.
Reply
Our summer temperatures average 98-103. Our pool is extremely warm. How much of a drop in water temperature can we expect? Does the unit have to run continually to be effective and finally, what type of operating costs can be attributed to this unit?
Reply
The pool cooler will drop the pool 10 to 15 degrees. The operating costs are around a dollar a night on running the cooler 10 hours. It does not have to run continually, just run it at night when the sun is off the pool and it will perform and drop this pool down and be refreshing.
Reply
Can this cooling system be used with a salt water pool?
Reply
All of the chillers we carry are salt water compatible. After a couple of weeks of usage, spray down the pool cooler with a garden hose to wash off salt residue if any.

Pros: Cools as promised, cheap to run
Cons: large unit.
I purchased the Glacier recently and just had it installed by my pool guy.. the unit works as promised and temps are now approx. 10 degrees cooler then they were. it dropped an unusable 95 degree to 85-87 depending on the time of day. This is with a dark pebbletec finish in all day sun. the one plus I have is the cooler sits in the shade from 2pm on during the day so it can cool if you want during the day. right now I just have it set to run 8 hours during the night. my pool guy put actuators and hooked it into my Pentair panel so it is fully automated.

(5 out of 5 stars) No Southern Pool Should Be Without One Of These Coolers!

Pros: Refreshing Water Temperature
Cons: Size
I purchased the GPC210 Glacier Pool Cooler last year mid-season. Our pool is a 17000 gallon volleyball pool, but since we have Tahoe Blue Pebble plaster, we elected for the larger unit. The pool was hot yet again and after researching the options, I elected to try this evaporative cooler. I SO wish I had done it sooner. With the instructions I was able to purchase all of the parts needed for installation and install it myself. However, unless you are comfortable with doing your own plumbing, hire a plumber/pool company to install it. The unit was MUCH larger than I anticipated. As such, to fit it on the equipment pad in my fenced-in pool-equipment area, I had to relocate my waterfall pump and extend the concrete pad. After installation, we noticed an immediate difference. We could feel the cooler water coming from the in-floor cleaning jets. Since most of our return is through the attached hot tub via the spillway, we noted that the hot tub was several degrees cooler than the pool. At one point, we had a couple days of rain and we had to turn off the cooler as the pool temperature had dropped below 80 degrees. This year our pool temperature hasn't exceeded 87 degrees. Even though we have been over 100 degrees ambient air temperature for the past 10 days. I cannot describe how nice it is to jump into an 85 degree pool when it is 103 degrees outside. The only issue that we have with our cooler is having our Jandy PDA system turn it off when the hot tub is on. We have to turn it off manually, otherwise, it drains the hot tub. I need talk to Jandy to see if it can be a pool-mode only device. But for now, my family knows to turn it off before enabling the spa. I have seen no appreciable increase in my electric bill from using the cooler. It uses very little electricity, but requires the pump to be running. We run it whenever the pool is on during the day and we run it for 4 hours at night. I wish my pool company had told me about this from the beginning. I would have had it installed when the pool was built.

We LOVE this chiller!. For the past 2 summers the water was just too hot to enjoy the pool with the temperature in the upper 90's and low 100's. Two days after installation (we have a large pool) the water is pleasantly refreshing and we have used it every day. Thanks for getting us back in our pool.

Pros: Works - cools the pool
Cons: extremely large - needs to be hidden behind a building or is an eye sore
With Texas setting heat records, the Glacier Pool "swamp cooler" was a surprising success. Our pool had gotten to the mid 90's with air temp in the 107 - 110 range. Very uncomfortable swimming. Not refreshing at all. Yesterday we enjoyed our pool at 87 degrees! Thanks INYO. The product is a success in our book.

(5 out of 5 stars) It absolutely works as promised

I live outside of Austin, TX where we have had over 60 days above 100 so far this summer. By mid-June my pool water was mostly 92-93 with a cool down to around 89 by morning. It just wasn't refreshing to spend any time in the pool. After having the Glacier Chiller installed, the water temperature is around 82 in the morning and totally enjoyable to cool off in. I run it at night and notice that the fan is actually quieter than my pool pump. I do need to add more water than usual due to the evaporation but it is not excessive. I would note to make sure that you have a concrete pad ready for the chiller. I did not and had to delay a couple of weeks while the concrete cured before I could have the installation completed.

I purchased my unit one year ago and cannot get it to work well. The specs said up to 40,000 gallon pool size when purchased. Now the specs say up to 30,000 gallons. My pool is 35,000 gallons. Make sure you go big or your pool will only cool 5 degrees in 36 hours.

(3 out of 5 stars) Pool chiller review
Reviewed By: Heath D. from Maurice , LA ()
Pros: Does cool overnight
Cons: Doesnt cool as much as claimed. In humid environments approx 5 to 6 degree drop not 8 to 10.
It does cool better than no cooling system. I live in south Louisiana high humidity. My pool last summer was hot 94 degrees in late afternoon. It peaked at 96 one time last year. Now my temp in late afternoon is 88. On occasion it hits 89. That's a little close because 86 has a nice chill ,89 is still refreshing, two more degrees 91 you start to feel warmth in the water. I would feel better if my afternoon temp peaked at 86or87. Running it more does not help bc it really don't cool during the day.It doesn't stop the 4 to 5 degree rise my pool normally does from morning to night. But it does keep the water from feeling warm. I do like the unit. But wish it worked as well as claimed. Another note. It is an open unite so u may have an electrician install a float switch. Bc if u don't and the sump pump stops working u can burn up your pool pump and flood your yard. Hope this helps also my pool is approx 30,000 gallons and gets sun nearly all day. Midnight blue plaster 8 foot deep end. I would recommend buying the bigger unit even if u have a smaller pool.

Pros: Cools the water
Cons: Requires planning on installation and hook-up
The 210 came in 5 days and delivery anywhere I wanted it unloaded. Be sure it will get through your gates as it is wide. Well packed and easy to move into place. It requires some thought on installing in an existing pool equipment area. Used concrete blocks to get it 16" above the pumps. Instructions are helpful and fairly complete. Once you adjust the water flow it works great and dropped the temperature over 10 degrees the first day. Beware of the fact you need 18" clearance around the unit for water spray and need to cover the top as it is open if you have trees overhead. Overall, very happy to have the unit as pool was 93 degrees before and now in the low 80s.

Pros: Works Well
Cons: Fan Noise
Installed the Glacier GPC210 pool cooler two weeks ago just before some record breaking hot weather. with outside temps running 96 to 102 degrees, the cooler keeps the pool between 82 and 87 degrees. Without the cooler we'd be looking at pool temperatures of 92 to 97 degrees. Fan is a little noisy for the people in the guest bedroom, but it is not occupied very often. Pool is 25,500 gallons, uncovered and in the sun all day. Large area of 3 1/2 ft deep water also. I'd have given it five stars if not for the fan noise.

(2 out of 5 stars) priming problem
Reviewed By: Charles T. from Tomball, TX (Houston area) ()
Pros: cools water great
Cons: will not stay primed
This product cooled our pool down so that it was refreshing to swim in the middle of the summer. It does a great job at that, but it takes a lot of baby sitting to keep it going. I had it professionally installed by a very credible pool builder in our area. The problem I had was keeping the system primed. The pool builder went out of their way to help get the valves set just right to keep it going. It may stay primed for a few hours or a couple of days but waould eventually lose prime. If the level in the catch basin ever got low enough to catch air, it would stop all pool circulation. I had it programmed into our auto system so it would come on automatically with the system in the hot part of the summer. I finally gave up and just shut the valves and reprogrammed to use it manually. I now just run it manually a few days before swimming and when I am going to be around close to reprime. The company that installed make many calls to Glacier without much support from them. I am reluctant to recommend but the few times that we swam in a refreshing cool pool is ALMOST worth the trouble. Glacier needs to refine their system a little and they will have a homerun.

Pros: Cheaper to operate than a heat pump, much cheaper unit cost than a heat pump.
Cons: Higher water loss from the pool, no safety switch to turn of the pool pump if the sump pump goes out.
I installed this myself three weeks ago, it works very well; we run it for 9 hours during the coolest part of the night. With 100+ degree weather for months now, this unit has kept our pool cooled down to 83 degrees in the morning up to around 87 in the afternoon. My pool is a 3'-5'-4' depth pool, in full sun all day - we are amazed. Before, our pool water was getting up to body temperature in the afternoon. My only concern is that there is no safety swith to turn off the pool pump in case something ever happens with the sump pump in the unit. The fan is a little noisy, but not too bad.

Within 12 hours after installation our pool was 15 degrees cooler. It is fabulous! We have been in the middle of a heat wave of triple digit temps and the pool stays in the mid eighties. What an ecomomical way to cool the pool. So thankful our problem is solved. Would recomend to anyone!!!!

We ordered this pool cooler after we could not use our pool in June of '09 due to the dry, hot, early summer here in Louisiana. My husband and his brother (they are both pretty handy) installed the cooler in one afternoon. It cooled the pool down to a comfortable temp. in less than one 24 hour period. In 48 hours it was a very enjoyable cool temp. We were concerned about our electric bill going up with the use of the cooler but we saw very little increase in our bill, it's about like running a box fan, that was a pleasant surprise.
