What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

Hello Alicia. The motor you are looking at can fit on many different pump models. The GO-KITs are determined by the make and model of pump the motor is going on. If you can get us that information, we can get the right GO-KIT for you.

I just installed a brand new motor. After running for about 5 mins., I could smell the motor and the housing was very hot to the touch! I turned the pump off right away! Is this normal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 7/20/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Dennis R.

Hi Stephen. A running motor that is too hot to touch is not necessarily overheating.  If the automatic protector is not tripping and the actual running amps do not exceed the maximum amps on the nameplate, the motor is not overheating. However, you should still check the conditions that make a motor overheat. For example, the supply voltage to your motor may be too low due to power company power demands or inadequate wire size between the breaker box and the pump . See our guide on "How To Troubleshoot a Pool Pump Motor - Motor Overheated" for more information.

What is the GPM of this model?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

The GPM is not solely determined by the motor. This motor is used on several pumps and this will cause the GPM to change. You will have to look at the power curve of your pump. This will give you the GPM rating.

How do you change wiring in motor from 115V service to 230V service?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/14/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Joe S.

If you are wiring for 115V, the three wires to the pool pump will be black, white and green. Attach the white wire to terminal 1 of Line 1 (L1). Attach the black wire to terminal 3 of Line 2 (L2). Attach the green wire under the Ground screw (GND). The black plug is shifted in position so the the black wire is attached to terminal 4 Line 2 (L2) and the white wire is attached to terminal 5. Note: in this position the white arrow on top of the 2 prong black plug is pointing at the 115V label.

So both descriptions that are on the page for the usq1072 are different in terms of the amps. One says 230- 6.6 and the other description says 230- 5.9amps. So is there a difference in over all or same?

My filtration system requires a 3/4 HP motor. I used to have a 2 HP pump prior to this one, which did the same thing. Would there be any advantage to get a motor that is higher rated than the 3/4 HP motor? I am having trouble getting the water to flow when I start the pump. This is because the water in my elevated spa drains down ~ 5 inches overnight. I have to add water back to the spa to get the pump to pump water. Would a higher HP motor help get the water moving without refilling the spa?

A  Answered on 7/18/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Without knowing all of the building specifications on your pool then it is tough to say if you can use a 3/4 hp motor however, please view our "How To Determine Why a Pool Pump Won't Prime" guide which may assist you with troubleshooting why your pool pump is having a hard time starting to pump. The fact that your spa drains a few inches when the pump shuts down should not be a reason as to why the pump has issues getting started.

Got my capacitor and was EXACT MATCH! I did everything I read....I had 2 yellow wires on one side with the 2 posts and one red/ white on one post on the other so I put back the same way....however I HOPE it didn't make a difference which post each yellow went to but wouldn't think it would if both were on the same side???? Turned on power....Hit the switch twice and both times it HUMMED just like the old one. 3rd time POP and smoke. (blew up).Any suggestions? It's only for my water falls.

i received my motor in the mail today i've taken the four bolts off the pump should the motor just slide out or is there more to it
 Reply

A  Answered on 3/27/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

So that really depends on the model of the front pump housing(wet end) that the motor actually is bolted to. I would advise to confirm that model then look up its parts diagram on our web site. That parts diagram will give you a better idea of how its assembled.

Hi Bill, yes, this is the correct replacement motor for the motor model 5KC36MN2533BX included in your photo. You will also need a Sta-Rite Dura Glas/Max E Glas seal kit when you replace your motor. Please be sure to remove the copper insert cone in your seal plate if you have one in order for the shaft seal in this kit to fit. Hi Austin, for us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump or quickest send them using our online chat feature? To supply this photo simply click the reply link below and upload your photo. Once we get this photo we can make the proper recommendation for the seal kit.

Will this motor replace a Sta-rite Dura-glas p2ra5d-129l?
 Reply

A  Answered on 4/22/2021 by InyoPools Product Specialist Robert M.

We could not cross-reference P2RA5D-129L. However, P2RA5D-180L is a 3/4HP and the USQ1072 would be the correct motor. If the specifications on your motor label match what we have listed for the USQ1072, it will work.
