What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

I am attempting to replace my pool pump with one of yours but need to know if the pump i am ordering has everything I will need. I am ordering the 196329-20 to replace that same part number on the current pump. My contractor says I will need to be certain that the motor has a 1.5 inch or larger suction and outlet and return port?? Does this part?? Thanks

A  Answered on 8/27/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

No. This is a replacement motor which do not have suction or return ports. You would need to order a complete pump which means that you would need the complete pump model in order to locate that.

what is the flow (GPM) for this motor /pump
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/5/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, The flow rate is specific to the pump, not the motor. You will have to provided us with the pump housing model and the Feet of Head of your pool. You can also refer to our How to Size a Pool Pump for Your In-Ground Pool guide for more info.

Can you get the motors with the pump attached.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/8/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Yes, there are many model complete pumps that have the motors on them. Ultimately you will need to know the specific model of that front pump housing that the motor bolts to so we can confirm if we carry your specific one.

Can I replace an existing older A.O. Smith 2 H.P. Square Flange Up Rate Motor - USQ1202 With an new A.O. Smith 3 H.P Square Flange Motor - SQ1302V1 This pump is used for a large hot tub monster spa jets and I would like to get a more powerful jet action. The pump is for the jets (up to 12 of them) and separate from the filter pump. Now I shut some off to get more forceful jet action. I would just like to change out the motor to minimize the effort and keep all the plumbing in place.

Brad, If you want to go to a higher horsepower, you will need to upgrade the impeller and diffuser. You also need to make certain that your filter can handle the increased pressure. You may also need to increase the breaker size to accommodate the higher amps.

Trying to find the correct motor needed to replace our Sta Rite, Supermax model #168451. I’m attaching some photos as a portion of the label is missing. Thanks for any help!

After looking at the photos you attached it looks like you have the Super Max 3/4 HP Pump - PHK2RA6D101L. The direct replacement motor would be the A.O. Smith 3/4 HP Square Flange 56Y Up Rate Motor - B2852

The correct motor for your pump is model B2844. The seals should be replaced when you replace the motor. The seal kit is GOKIT32.

Hello Patrick.  The Century Motors 3.0 HP Full Rate Motor model SQ1302V1 is compatible with the Pentair Challenger Series of Pumps.  It is recommended that the motor shaft seal, diffuser gasket, and diffuser gasket be replaced at the same time.  The Tune-Up Kit, GOKIT5, contains these parts for the CHII-N1 Challenger Series.  The Tune-Up Kit, GOKIT73, contains these parts for the CFII-N1 Series.  Tune Up Kit Pentair Challenger   Pump (CHII Series) - GOKIT5    Tune Up Kit Pac Fab Challenger CFII/Pinnacle Series - GOKIT73   Pentair / Pac Fab Challenger CHII / CFII Series
