What is Service Factor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/11/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/12/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Replacing a pool pump motor is not as difficult as it seems. You can try looking here. If you need help figuring out what the information on your label means. If you are still having difficulty figuring it out you can call us at our toll free number or you can send us a photo of your motor label here.

I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?
 Reply

A  Answered on 2/16/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Marion - When you go to a 3 HP EE motor (B844), you will also have to upgrade the impeller to 5074-27E and the diffuser to 5074-13. We also recommend that you replace the seal and gaskets with GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT. If you choose not to replace all the gaskets, you will have to change the shaft seal as a minimum. Hi, Happy. You have a large pump for such a small pool. We do not have a replacement variable speed motor that would replace the B2844 motor. You would have to replace the entire pump with the EcoStar - SP3400VSP or Intelliflo - 011018 if you need such a large pump. I would recommend calculating the feet of head of your pool using the steps in our How To Size a Pool Pump and How Do I Calculate Feet of Head for My Pool? to make sure the pump you have is not oversized.

Hi, Paul. You can upgrade to a 3 hp motor reusing your existing impeller and diffuser. However, if you want to increase water flow, you will have to change your impeller and diffuser after confirming if your filter, plumbing, and system is sufficient. To determine that you will have to calculate the Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of your pool, then use the pump performance curve to determine the flow.

 Reply

A  Answered on 5/27/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Derek, It is possible to replace your motor with a 3 HP and replace the impeller and diffuser to 3 HP but you may have issues with going with such a large ,pump. Normally for a 10,000-gallon pool you could use a 3/4 or 1 HP pump. Some of the issues with going with a pump this large are... 2" pipe can only accommodate 120 GPM and the 3 HP will exceed 120 GPM so you will not be getting the full capacity of this pump with using 2" pipe, the 3 HP is expensive to operate, finally you need to make sure your filter can handle the output of the pump which would be in the 120-150 GPM Range. You should have a label on the side of your filter which says max GPM. If you decide this is the route you want to go let us know and we can give you the part #'s for the impeller and diffuser.

Delivery is 5-7 business days but  unfortunately this motor cannot ship to California as California law mandates the use of a variable speed motor. Most  likely you will require this motor here http://www.inyopools.com/Products/00000017069223.htm which unfortunately is currently out of stock.

Hi John, for us to suggest the proper seal kit could you send a photo of a wide shot of your complete pool pump to show the pipes going in and out of the pump? To supply this photo simply click the reply link below and upload your photo. Once we get this photo we can make the proper recommendation for the seal kit.

Hi Gary, in order for us to cross-reference the correct replacement motor for you we will need your motor model, part, or catalog number. You can also provide an image of the motor label and the complete pump including the plumbing going in and out of it.

Need to replace my Centurion pool pump motor (see label) that is part of my Challenger pool pump system. This model comes up when I search for the model number on the label, and seems to match perfectly for square mounting frame and 3HP, but is longer than the old one (13.5"). Do I need this one or the SQ1302V1, or can I order either one.

Hi Kevin, yes this is a correct replacement motor for your motor included in the photo. When replacing a pool motor we do suggest a Seal Kit. We will just need to know if you have the Pentair/Pac Fab Challenger CH or CF series pool pump. If the pump model label is not legible then you can also locate the impeller and or diffuser part number which will serve as a clue. Those part numbers will be molded onto the parts themselves.

Can you advise if the B2844 is the best replacement for my motor? It's starting to screech which leads me to believe the bearing is shot. The label of my current motor is weathered but I was able to zoom in and I'm pretty sure the part number is 7-168888-07, which is listed in the alternative parts section of the B2844 description in your website. I've already added it to my cart but want to be sure. Also, which GoKit do I need? Pics attached of everything visible. Thanks.

Hi Jose, so you have a Pentair Challenger pool pump. The last detail would be if you either have a CH or CF series which changes the seal kit. The label on the side of the pump should tell you. If the model is not legible then we can determine the series by getting the impeller or diffuser part number as well.

This motor will work as a replacement for the SQ1302V1 motor. However if you want the exact motor that you currently have then we would suggest this SQ1302 3 HP Replacement Motor.

Hi Mike, this will not replace a BN61 motor, but we do carry the 2.0 HP Thru-Bolt Dual Speed Low Amps Motor - BN61.  Let us know what pump it hooks up to so we can recommend a new motor shaft seal or tune-up kit to ensure a long-lasting, leak-free installation.
