Can I use granular, or must I use 3" tablets or stick?

We recommend using tablets or sticks, and not to use granular with chlorinators.

Is there a feedback mechanism that tells the unit the chlorine balance in the pool? Is this a way for me to automate addition of clorine to keep it always at the correct level? Or, just another place to put the tab aside from the the drain basket?

There is a dial on this unit which has a setting from 1-10 If you set the dial on 1 it will be letting the least amount of chlorine to the pool and if you have it set at 10 this would send the most amount of chlorine to the pool. So you can automate the feed of chlorine to the pool but you will still need to manually test your water. We do not recommend placing tablets in the skimmer basket because this high concentration of chlorine goes directly back to your pump and can cause corrosion to your pool equipment. If you do not go with the automatic chlorinator we would recommend at least going with one of our floating chlorinators so you do not damage your equipment you may view our floating chlorinators here http://www.inyopools.com/chlorinators_floating.aspx

What is the difference between an inline and offline chlorinator?
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/30/2012 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

An inline chlorinator would be plumbed directly inline with the plumbing.  For an existing pool, this would mean a section of pipe would need to be cut out to install the chlorinator.  An offline chlorinator attaches to existing plumbing by chlorinator tubing (holes would be drilled into existing pipe to attach the tubing.)

Hello Tom - A brominator is a chemical feeder that holds bromine tablets and feeds a desired amount of bromine into the water.

What is the difference between an online and an offline brominator?

A  Answered on 7/1/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Online brominators are plumbed into the system after the filter and or heating unit while the offline is connected to the lines via holes drilled and hoses attached to them with fitttings and clamps.

What is the difference between a brominator and chlorinator?
 Reply

A  Answered on 12/17/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Charlie R.

A chlorinator dispenses chlorine, while a brominator dispenses bromine. Bromine is typically used as a substitute for chlorine in hot tubs and spas because it remains stable at higher temperatures. On the other hand, once temperatures pass 98 degrees, chlorine excess turns to gas, which produces an odor.

I received a Series CL220EF chemical feeder that is labelled as a chlorine feeder. Can this be still used for bromine as this is the chemical I am using?

Yes you can use this chlorinator for both chlorine and bromine.

I bought the CL220BE 2 years ago and the lid is so hard to turn. It is a nightmare when it comes to turning the cap off. I have to tap it with a hammer to get it to turn. What causes it to be so hard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Need to make a new system that you unlatch instead of turning. Thank You

Hi Jodi, You can try to keep the lid o-ring lubricated. It sounds the cover o-ring is absorbing water causing it to expand making the cover hard to be removed.

how do you add bromine tablets
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/24/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello, To add your bromine, turn off system (pump, filter) and unscrew top cap (there will be overflow/spill of water coming out through the chlorinator). Just add your tablets into the water, add lube for your oring that is in the lid and screw back your lid. Turn pump/filter back on to flow bromine into system.

Why would I use an off-line brominator when installing a new in ground pool? Why not in-line which seems to make more sense to me rather than drilling holes to accommodate it.

Attached is the How To Decide Whether You Need An In-line or Off-line Chlorinator. I would recommend an Inline unit for a new build.
