What cartridge does thus system require, and does a cartridge come with the initial system purchase?

This filter comes complete with a new cartridge included inside. The replacement cartridge for this unit is the Hayward 150 Sq. Ft. X-Stream Element.

how do i backwash this system ?

Hi. Rick. This system does not have the ability to be backwashed. To clean this filter you will have to remove the cartridge from the tank and rinse it out. Instructions are available in the Hayward Filters Xstream Owners Manual.

Hi, Steve. This is a good option for your pool. You will get a cleaner pool since you get better filtration with a cartridge filter versus sand.

Yes as long as this is for an above ground pool then yes this is more than sufficient for a pool which is 4,600 gallons.
