I want to install the Hayward Lownox heater on my pool but I live in the mountains at 3,000 foot elevation; do I need to buy a special high elevation heater?
Reply
Hello George, The Hayward Universal Low Nox are self adjusting up to 10,000 feet of elevation. Any installation above 2,000 feet will require a special restriction plate to be installed. Luckily, that plate comes standard with every heater so no need to purchase it separately.

Hello, how do i determine the size of the heater i will need for my SPA?
Reply
Hi Hugo, The main determining factors would be do you need Natural Gas or Propane? How many gallons is your spa? Are you replacing a heater? Or is this a new heater? If replacing a heater what size gas line do you currently have? How quickly would you like to raise the heater 30 degrees? Please email back with the answers to these questions and I can provide you with a heater recommendation.

If I purchase a propane heater now can it be converted to natural gas at a later date?
Reply
Yes this heater can be converted to Natural gas by using the Hayward Conversion Kit (fdxlcnk0002) LP to Natural Gas.

why is my heater reading LO AND ITS NOT RUNNING

According to Hayward, the "LO" error code is referring to a Limit String Open Error." Hayward's explanation for the error, taken from the owner's manual: If the limit string opens the heater shuts down and goes into lockout. Automatic restart is 2 minutes after the error condition is corrected and the limit string closes. Contact a licensed technician to inspect and repair your unit

What's the life expectancy of the heater?

This heater has a one year warranty from the manufacturer. The heater doesn't have a specific expiration date, but pool heaters can last 10 years or longer.

I may need a new heater for a 38,000 gallon outdoor pool. What size would I need? How many BTU's would you recommend?
Reply
Hi, Jeff. Heaters are sized based on the pool's surface area. To determine what size heater you'll need to first calculate your pool's Surface Area, then The BTU Size of your Swimming Pool Heater.

What are the electrical requirements for heater?

The heater is shipped from the factory wired for use with 240VAC, 60 Hz. but it can also be wired 115V by changing the jumpers in the heater. The manufacturer recommends a dedicated 20 amp breaker for this heater.

Do they make a pool spa heater that isn’t effected by chlorine. A common pool chemical.
Reply
Hi, Thomas. They do not. This unit does have a cupro-nickel heat exchanger which is one of the most durable materials available. It all comes down to keeping the water balance according to the manufacturer's spec to ensure the unit lasts.

Installed this heater from you all this summer and it worked flawlessly. Now I am getting an "HS" warning. Won't heat, Not sure how to determine what happened and need some advice on what to look for.

Hi Brad, most often the HS code is either due to a failing water temperature sensor or there is not enough water flow through the unit. You may want to clean and or replace the filter elements to first increase the flow to see if that resolves the issue.

I have a 23x13 pool that is 5'6: in the center and 3'6' on either end and an attached spa that is 5'10" across, 3'6" in the center with a seating bench around it that is about 18". I live in the Tampa Bay area and the pool has mostly sun exposure. I would need a heater mostly for the spa. I have an old corroded Hayward heater and this has the same general footprint. Would this one have enough BTUs?
Hello Chester. The general consideration when sizing a gas heater primarily for spa use is TIME - how long to heat the water? Based on the dimensions provided the spa contains approximately 400 gallons of water. The Hayward model H150FD (150K BTU) would be capable of delivering a 30-degree F rise in temperature in about 48 minutes. Please review the attached Hayward Universal H-Series Brochure. Page 4 contains a performance graph for all Model sizes. The larger the BTU rating the faster the temperature rises regardless of the target temperature. Heater dimensions are also listed for each model (page 4). Universal H-Series
