I was wondering how do you know if you need a new grid? Mine is about ten yrs old. The problem i'm having is on start up its blowing DE back into the pool what can cause this because other than the grid and the o ring on the lid their is noting to this filter.

Hi Kim, it would definitely be time for a new grid, normally we see the life span being 3 years or so. To determine when it is time to replace your DE grid you will want to note your initial clean starting PSI from your pressure gauge, when you install your new clean DE grid. You will know it is time to replace your grid when after you clean your grid the pressure does not drop below 10 PSI above your initial clean starting PSI. For example if the initial clean pressure reading is 10 PSI and 3 years from now you clean your grid and it does not drop below 20 PSI then it is time to replace your grid. Another tell tale sign that the grid needs to be replaced is when DE is returning back to your pool.

Dose this grid fit the Hayward serial #340h29 regenx

Hi Walter, You would have to call Hayward Tech Support at 908.355.7995, their the only ones that can tell you which replacement cartridge you need from the serial number. You can also find out which cartridge you by measuring the current cartridge and comparing it to the RG450 Regenx Grid and the RG700 and SC700 Regenx Grid.

Do I need to use de powder with this filter? The filter is only 2 years old and the de blows back into the pool during start up making the water cloudy. I read that a cartridge filter does not need de to filter out particles etc.

Hi Bruce the Regenx filter is a unique cartridge filter that also uses DE this is the only filter that has a cartridge and uses DE. So if you don't have the Regenx filter then you do not add DE to a cartridge filter. By the way the Regenx was discontinued roughly 15 years ago so if your filter is 2 years old then most likely it does not use DE powder.

I want to purchase a grid element. The grid from my filter has an item number of RG55E and measures 9 5/8 x 14 1/4. Is the RG450 the same filter? If not, please let me know the correct item number.
I appreciate the help.
Thanks-John

We have a Hayward Regenx pool filter DE RG45e that needs replacement. I see you have one in your inventory, but doesn't state the price or availability. If we cannot get the exact filter, what is the next best one?
Thank you

Hi, Carol. Unfortunately, this item is no longer available and there is no alternate replacement. You will have to locate one at another retailer or replace your entire filter.
