I have a Hayward sand filter with a SP710 multiport valve. Do I need the SPX710X32 or the SPX710XR50?
Reply
The Hayward >SPX710XR50 is a valve that is only used on Hayward D.E. filters. If you have a Hayward sand filter you would either need a >SPX710X32 (Model S200 filter)) or a > >SPX710X62 (Pro Series Models).

I need parts for my filter valve. When I look at the filter parts breakdown, it gives me different choices. How do I know which one is the one I need?
Reply
In order to locate the correct parts we will need to know the model number of the filter valve. Two identical filters can have two different valves. Typically the valve model will be located on the label of the valve. If there is no model number on the valve, you can try to see if there are any part numbers on the valve itself. Once you've located you valve model you can check out our >Filter Valve Parts.

Can I repair a broken SP710XR50 valve body? If not, how do I replace the old one with a new one?
Reply
Unfortunately the valve body can not be repaired. You would need to replace the complete valve. To install it, you will need some pvc glue, pvc and fittings

Can I use this valve spo710xr50 to drain water out of my swimming pool?
Reply
Yes you can do this by putting the valve in the waste setting and either vacuuming to waste draining pool water or just draining alone.

I have a Vari-Flo valve Model SP711 with a serial number of 100m19. It's OLD! We are having issues with our in ground pool and my troubleshooting tells me tat I should replace the valve. This particular valve is no longer listed on your web-page. Which one replaces it?
Reply
You have a couple of options. You can look at the Parts Explosion for the SP-711 here. Perhaps you can find the pieces to fix your existing one. If you are looking for a totally new multi-port valve, we would need to know the make and model of the filter it would go on please.

I have a Hayward S200 filter and need a Vari-flo valve assembly (1.5") for it., the whole assembly (as the original is cracked beyond repair). Will either the SPX710X32
or the SPX710x62 valves work? I see no major differences in these two assemblies other than where the glass "jar" and the pressure gauge installs. All the fittings appear to be the same size....are they? Thanks!

If you have the Hayward S-200 sand filter then you will require the Hayward SP0710X32 Valve as the SP0710X62 will not work on the S-200. We also carry the SP0710X32 Valve in a Generic Version which will save you some money.

Hello Kevin, If your valve states it is a SP710XR50 then you have 1-1/2" ports/piping

I have the SP-710XR50 filter control valve and it is leaking from the top. Do I need to replace the spider gasket or is there another gasket on the top causing the problem
Reply
Hi June, Yes this is most likely the SPX0710XD Spider Gasket which needs to be replaced.

I have a Hayward SP710XR50 valve. Now the valve sticks internally because if I move it to filter it discharges like the backwash or rinse settings. If I move the handle around quite a few times, it "unfreezes" and will filter without discharging. Do you sell a kit with the gaskets, springs, etc. to rebuild the valve or do I have to buy the parts separately? Which parts would you recommend I replace? There appears to be no tension left to "spring" the handle up. Thanks.
Reply
Frank, There is not a kit available for the Hayward SP710XR50 valve, you will have to purchase the part separately. You can find all the parts needed via Hayward Multiport Vari-Flow 1-1/2" SP-710X, SP-712, SP-711 1976-Current Parts.

My back wash valve (SP710XR50) is not sealing completely after I turn it back to filter. It continues to discharge a small stream of water out of the discharge pipe. Can you tell me what is causing this problem?
Reply
Hi Dennis, I would recommend taking the valve apart and inspect the gasket also make sure that the diffuser is in the correct position.

I have the 710XR50 with the little ridges broken where the spider seal is (just replaced seal)I , and now I have water coming out when the valve is in the filter mode. I replaced the old Spider Seal but it is still leaking out the waste port.
So because the little ridges that the seal seats into are broken does this mean that I need to replace the hole Valve.?
Thank You
John
PS Help just got the pool open and looking GOOD and now had to turn off filter.
Reply
Hi John, If the Spider Gasket was installed correctly the your only other option is to replace the entire valve.

As long as the filter is not running can I remove the six screws and take the valve assemble top off, or will it have water and pressure under it

Hi Len, The pump has to be off before you attempt to unassemble the valve.

Is there a how to guide for replacing the entire multivalve? I have water leaking through cracks in the valve housing where the two halves meet.

Hi, We do not have a How To guide for replacing the valves. But all you will have to do is unscrew the valve from the filter housing using the locking nuts.

I just purchased this valve. What is the PVC end piece called or part number needed to connect the 3 female ports not connecting to the DE filter? Thanks.

Hello Shannon, can you please look at Hayward Pro Grid Perm-A-Glass DE Parts, I think you are wanting number 28 bulkhead fittings. Let us know what part if it's not the bulkhead.

I have de going in the pool would a bad spider gasket do this. the spider gasket is not leaking?
Reply
It could be a bad spider gasket or a damaged grid. The smallest rip in the material can let de back into the pool, and the amount of pressure that is inside of the filter will make the hole bigger with time.

If the valve is leaking from the upper connector, due I need to change the whole valve?
Reply
Hello, if it is leaking from the handle your spring might be rusted or from the backwash area then you would need to replace Key,cover, & Handle Assy. 1 1/2" Black (spx0710xba17) unless you take the top part off and you see the Gasket, Valve Seat - 5 Spoke (spx0710xd) is compromised then that's what needs to replaced. If you need to see the whole parts breakdown Hayward Multiport Vari-Flow 1-1/2" SP-710X, SP-712, SP-711 1976-Current Parts

Hi,
My pool has a Hayward DE filter system (model DE6000) and Hayward Vari-Flo valve (model SP0710XR50).
The valve is leaking out the top dial, especially while in the filter position. My understanding is that the “spider valve” gasket may be faulty. I read that the gasket part number is model number SPX0710XD. Is this correct?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Reply
Yes, that part number is the correct replacement spider gasket for your model valve.

How do I change out the DE in my SP710XR50. Does it remove the DE in backwash or waste Mode?
Reply
Hi Steve, Here is a Video on How to Replace DE Powder which will show you how to replace DE powder. The backwash valve does not replace the DE powder.

Is this a direct replacement for the SP710XR50, and what, if any, are the differences between the two?
Thank you
Reply
Yes, this is the direct replacement for your valve. No difference in application or functionality.

I'm in search of the label for the top of the vari-port (SP710XR50), can't read mine very well now. Any and all of the replacement labels I've seen, in my searches, have the "filter" on the top (by Hayward) and the "Backwash" on the bottom. Mine is opposite of that, the "filter" is on the bottom (away from the filter itself).

Hi, Henry. The VariFlo Multiport Valve SP0710XR50 Manual list part # SPX0710G as the replacement Valve Position Label.

Is there an installation manual for the Vari-Flo control valve? Where can I find one?

Hi, Sid. There is not an installation manual for this valve. Installation instructions will be found in the manual of the compatible unit like the Hayward Filters Pro-Grid Manual.

I have a DE4820 filter. This appears to be the correct valve, but i net the intake and the waste opposite of what the picture shows. Is this a separate model number?
Reply
Matthew, there are a variety of valves with a variety of configurations that would fit onto the DE4820 filter. So, yes your valve replacement would be different if the orientation of the plumbing is different on this valve compared to yours. The model information that would be important to find your replacement valve would be found on the top of the valve on the label that shows the different valve positions. The number you are looking for is usually denoted by p/n or mod. followed by a number. If you can not find that information, send a photo of the valve to our technicians at upload@inyopools.com to identify your part.

Is this the correct Multiport Valve for use with the Hayward DE3620?
Reply
Hi James, Yes if you have 1.5" plumbing going into your valve then this is the proper valve for the DE3620. If you have 2" plumbing then you will use this SP0715XR50 Valve or you can use this SP0740DE Valve

I have a stainless DE filter 36 my side mounts are 1 1/2" pipe center distance is 7 3/4" what do you have for valve replacement.
Reply
Hi. We will need to know the make and model of the tank or you can use the Multiport Valve, 1 1/2" Universal - SP0710XALL. That is because the pre-plumbed connection of the valve must be compatible with the filter.

Hello,
I have a (saltwater) Hayward DE36 filter with what I think is a SP0710XR50 backwash valve. Can't find a part number on it, I may have covered it up with my custom vinyl sticker. I don't see any leakage to the waste port, but there is enough water leaking around the valve handle to keep my floor wet. If you can verify this is correct, I'll order the whole valve, replace it, then see about repairs to the old cartridge.
Hi, Russell. This SP0710XR50 valve is the correct valve base on what you have.

I have a Hayward EC65. I do not have a multi-port and wondered about adding one. I do have a Polaris set up along with some valves but i am not sure how they all work,
valve next to the main pump and after the chlorinator
this is all new to me.
Reply
Hi Matt, so for the Hayward Perflex D.E. filter model EC65 there is no multiport valve that you need. It sounds as if you are also referring to the diverter valves in the pool system. Here is a guide called "How To Set Up Pool Diverter Valves - Overview" that may offer some more guidance.

i have a hayward vari flow valve sp710xr50 will the spo710xr50 work

Hi Charles, yes this multiport valve is the replacement for the model sp710xr50. This is just an alternate model number for the same model.

Why when I look online I see some models with same model number, but it says “reverse” on it? Couldn’t really find any info so just wondering, thanks
Reply
Hi Frank, if your model number is the same as the current valve model then it most likely just has a slightly newer design. But again, if it's the same model number then it is the correct valve replacement.

Hi Steven, this will depend on the model Variflo valve that you have. If you can provide us with the model number labeled on the top of the valve label, we can confirm for you. If that is not legible, could you send us a few photos? One of the complete valve and another of the top looking down onto it? To supply photos simply click the reply link below and upload your photos or quickest using our live online chat feature. Once we get those photos we can make the proper recommendation.

I have a Nautilus Western Series DE Filter (Fiberglass). The dimension between the ports is 7 1/2". I need to replace my 30yr old Hayward Vari-Flo 1 1/2" Multiport Valve Model SP710XA-41. What is the dimension between the ports on the Hayward Vari-Flo 1 1/2" Multiport Valve SP0710XR50? Will this valve fit my DE filter? I have also looked at the Hayward Model SP0710XALL and the Pentair 1 1/2" Multiport Valve #261177.
Hi John, The dimensions between the ports which connect to the filter are 5" on center. Most people use this Hayward Valve SP0710XALL for these older filters, this valve does not connect to the filter but is plumbed inline, so you may have a little re-plumbing.
