Can you replace single speed pump motor with dual speed pump motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/16/2007 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Yes but you can't go with a higher HP than the single speed motor. For example if you have a 1 HP single speed you cannot go with a 1.5 HP dual speed motor; you would be able to use a 1 HP dual speed motor. Customer would need to purchase a toggle switch or timer to switch from high speed to low speed.

I'm trying to find a replacement motor for my pool pump but my model number doesn't match what you have listed as the model number. My model number begins with a C48 and yours begins with an SP. Please help.

What we have listed on our chart pages is the pump model number. The model number you have will just identify the motor. If you look on the plastic housing on the pump there should be a sticker which will have the pump model number. You can usually find this by the discharge port on the pump. Once you locate it you can choose the correct replacement motor. Be certain to change the shaft seal and gaskets as needed. You can use our >How to guide if you need help.

When I plug in the pump, the motor starts going very slow and then stops. I replaced the capacitor and it still does the same think. The dealer where I bought the new capacitor told me it was a run type. Is there another somewhere inside the motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/4/2015 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Paul, Some motors have a run capacitor and a start capacitor however this BN36 motor only has a run capacitor. If you have a different motor then the BN36 let us know and we can determine if your motor has a start capacitor.

I have a Waterway HiFlo single speed pump BN25 can I us this pump as a substitute? I would like to go to a 2 speed pump the dimensions are very close to each other. RPM on the BN25 is 3450 the BN36 has RPMs of 3450/1725. Will this pump work or can you suggest another pump motor? Thanks.

A  Answered on 11/8/2016 by InyoPools Product Specialist Scott W.

The BN36 would fit your Hi-Flo but going from a 1HP to a 3/4HP you would have to change the impeller as well to fit the horsepower.

I bought this motor last summer to replace the one on my system, It worked great for around two months then it started to to get 'get stuck" when switching to the second speed. If I spun the shaft less than a quarter turn it would work. It finally got to the point where it doesnt do that . It is a hayward system for a hot tub can you tell what is wrong I drained the hot tub before fall and right now the unit is in my basement

Hi guys i sent in a question back in jan. of this year.about my new motor will not go from back to low speed after running on high. you mention the impeller might be getting stuck so i rebuilt the pump with a new housing and seals and it did again not right away but after being running. Is it possible the motor is just have a bad spot in the windings or is my impeller tighten down too much . Is there a amount you tighten the impeller too Please help I dont want to go all summer this way
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/27/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi. It is possible that the motor is bad causing the motor not to go from high to low speed and vice versa. The impeller should be hand tighten onto the motor shaft and should spin freely with little to no resistance.

Hi, We just got a used MagneTek Pool pump filter system for our 24' above ground pool. All of our pool stuff burned a barn fire, and I'm trying to figure out what I need to use the MagneTek filter. What size hoses, etc. I can't find much info on this system (we had a Hayward before). Any help you can give is appreciated!

A  Answered on 5/26/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Sue. MagneTek only makes motors, not pump. If you have your existing pump housing, you can use the Flex Hose Kit, 6 Ft - 155151.

We're using our 355 pool/spa pump for a garden pond and waterfall. It has done the job well. This spring, the pump would not turn on. It is also the first time we left it outside for the winter. I'm debating between purchasing a new pump or replacing the motor. My pump motor part number says - 7-177781-01. Will your 7-177781-02 work with it? Also what does 1081/1563 pump duty mean? Do you think it is worth replacing the motor or could something else be wrong? Thanks for your help.
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/26/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Hi Rose, I would suggest just replacing the motor as this really the only thing that goes wrong on the pumps. Yes the 7-177781-02 will replace your 7-177781-01 motor. 1081 mean that the motor is listed to the UL1081 safety standards for pool pump motors.

Thank you for your prompt reply. How can I tell if the impeller has not seized? Is there anything else I should check before replacing the motor? Also, if I were to replace the entire 355 pump, what would be a viable replacement. Thank you.

A  Answered on 5/28/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Rose. You can manually turn the motor shaft to see if it turns freely. It if does not then the motor is seized. You can use the FMHP Pump - 02107000-1010 as an alternate replacement.

I have a Speck Model E-71 pump (ProLine-branded, current motor PE71-II-H) and I want to downsize it to 3/4 HP because the motor is obviously oversized for my 15k gallon pool and 75 GPM filter. Will this motor fit? I will need the shaft seal Mechanical Seal 5/8" - 2921606204 and Impeller, E-75-i, 3/4 Hp (2921923096)? I can do the 2-speed wiring. Thanks!

A  Answered on 10/19/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi. Yes, those following parts are correct for reducing the pump's horsepower. For the dual speed motor, you will need the Two-Speed Toggle Switch Assy. - Lo/Off/Hi - 18313301 which includes wiring instructions.

I have a waterway Hi-Flo 3/4 HP side discharge, 2-speed pump. It has this motor on it 7-177781-02 AO Smith. The pump itself is fine. When I went to start up this spring, the motor would only work on low speed. I flipped the switch back and forth, and a few minutes later (motor still staying on low) it stopped. The motor smelled burnt, and smoke came out of the side of the motor. I plan to replace it with this motor. Should I replace the pump / motor seal? if so what would the part be?

Hi Jeff, Based on the model # you supplied this motor is the correct replacement motor for your pump. Yes, we definitely suggest replacing the shaft seal and you will require this Waterway Hi-Flo Shaft Seal.
