I just finished replacing the shaft seal on my booster pump. As soon as I turned the pump on water was leaking from the shaft seal. Is it defective or am I doing something wrong?

Depending on the model, the installation of a booster pump shaft seal can be slightly different than a pool pump shaft seal. Some booster pump and pool pump shaft seals require that a silicone sealant be used on the outer areas of the metal seat of the shaft seal. The seal will need to be lightly hammered into the body of the pump. You can use a 1 inch PVC coupling or a piece of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe and a rubber mallet. This procedure will apply to any pool pump or booster pump using a >PS-1000 style shaft seal.

Does this pump come with the motor also? I currently own this model but it's making lots of noise. Trying to decide if I want to attempt to rebuild the pump and replace the motor or buy a new unit.

Hello Shawn, The 011774 Whisperflo Pump 2 HP is a complete pump, which means it comes with the motor and strainer housing.

Hi Al, The Whisperflo pump does not come with unions, you will have to purchase them separately p/n 11201-0154. The unions can be used with 1-1/2" or 2" pipes.

What does full rate pump refer to verses this pump
 Reply

A  Answered on 1/30/2017 by InyoPools Product Specialist Stacey M.

Hello Randy, From the specs of the 011774 that is a 1.5hp full rate, even though it says 2hp, because a 1.5hp single speed has the Total Horsepower of 2.25hp. So this is a full rate pump.

The manufacturer provides a chart for calculating gallons per minute, so after calculating that based on your feet of head, you can then calculate the per hour rating. If you click here you can view the GPM chart for the Whisperflo series in the product details.

We would recommend staying with what the pool builder had placed on there as far as total horsepower, unless you plan on adding water features, moving the equipment further away from the pool or adding solar heating. If you do decide that you would like to go up in horsepower a wise choice would be by going with a replacement variable speed motor or complete pool pump. Maybe look into a Pureline Prime PL2606 pool pump.

I have a WF 28 and it is about 10 years old. I had to replace the motor once already, about 5-6 years ago and now that replacement is quite loud. It is still running though. Should I replace just the motor again, or should I consider replacing the whole pump?
 Reply

A  Answered on 8/20/2018 by InyoPools Product Specialist Lennox H.

Hi, Gary. You're at the mark where replacing the entire pump is recommended. However, replacing the motor B859 and seals - GOKIT32 or GOKIT32SALT will get your pump up and running again.

Is there a wf-28 equivalent Penrair pump that comes without the motor? I just replaced my motor and when I turned it on the older pump is now leaking so I want to purchase and replace the pump only.

The closest that we carry is part number 5074-10B which contains the pump housing, lid, basket, seal plate, and shaft seal.

My pool guy replaced one pool pump with a Pentair SuperFlo 1.5HP but he had quoted me a Pentair WhisperFlo 2HP. He said that the SuperFlo was a better unit. Is this true? Every place that I look the SuperFlo is less expensive, but he is trying to charge me more.

Hi, Bob. The SuperFlo Pump is not a better pump than the Whisperflo Pump. The Whisperflo Pump is a higher performing pump than the Superflo pump.

Motor on WF-28 burned out after 4 years in service. What can I use to replace the 2hp 3350014S? Is there a suggested Pentair replacement (355026S etc.)?
 Reply

A  Answered on 5/25/2019 by InyoPools Product Specialist Patrick P.

Here is a link to the Pentair 355026S Replacement Motor you can also use a PureLine PL2859 HP Motor which is considerably less $$ and is the same motor with the exception of the color. You will also need a Pentair Whisper Flo Seal Kit when you replace your motor. We put together this Video on How to Replace a Pool Pump Motor which you may find helpful when you tackle this project.

Yes, we do have your replacement motor. Based off the information provided, your replacement motor is this B2855 2 HP Century Motor When replacing your motor we always suggest a tune-up kit as well and you would require this Whisperflo GO-KIT32 Tune Up Kit we also have this Video on how to Replace a Pool Pump motor which you might find handy when you tackle this project. I need to replace my Century motor 2hp B2843. My question is, should I also replace the pump? If so, what is compatible with this motor?
 Reply

A  Answered on 6/10/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Most often pool owners replace the motor and seals unless of course, the pump housing has significant wear and or is damaged needing to be replaced. There are many models that can be used with this motor so it will depend on your specific model pump housing wet end.

I have an older WF-28 pump. The motor has been replaced many times. The store keeps giving me an EB843 or 2843 motor. Is this correct? I have been running them for years and now it looks like it has been wrong. Thx for the help.

A  Answered on 10/22/2020 by InyoPools Product Specialist Hector F.

Hello JB, yes you are correct that if you needed to match the original motor specifications then you would've needed either the B855 or our PL2855. It is also recommended to replace the seals and for this model, the part number is GOKIT32 for a chlorine pool and GOKIT32SALT for a saltwater swimming pool.

The Pentair Whisperflo Stndrd Full Rate 115/230V 1.5 HP Pump - WF-6  is the suggested replacement for your current model. The current motor you have confirms for use with either 115V or 230V you will need a motor compatible with the same voltage options if you are not sure which that you use. They will come factory set 230V if you use 115V you will change the setting on the rear of the motor to 115V before wiring/installing. This pump is not available for sale/delivery to California, please see California’s New Variable Speed Pool Pump Law
