What is a booster pump, and where does it attach to?
Reply
This cleaner is designated as a pressure side cleaner which means:Pressure Pool Cleaners most pressure cleaners require a booster pump which is typically a ¾ horse power pump that is dedicated for use with the cleaner alone. The booster pump allows you to operate the pressure cleaner without taking any suction away from your main pool pump. The addition of the booster pump does mean pressure cleaners require a more involved installation than either suction or robotic cleaners. The booster pump is installed in tandem with your pool pump.

Is there a delay between the main pump and booster pump coming on?

Jack, No there isn't. You will need a timer to program the booster pump to come on after the pool pump is running. Otherwise, you will burn out the booster pump motor.

Hi Mike, You can lay the hose on your deck in the sun parallel to your pool length for a few hour to see if that will solve your problem. Also make sure the hose swivels are able to turn properly.

My 280 seems to be A LOT less powerful. It gets stuck in corners and the wheels aren't moving. I replaced the wall connector recently and I can feel a good amount of water shooting past the black insert. Is this normal? or do I need a "new" new one? Or is there some other thing it could be. The booster pump is running like a champ and I serviced it (seals/bearings) about a year ago. Help...800 bones for a new one is NOT an option right now.

Hi, Brian. I am not sure the life of your Polaris 280 or that last time you serviced it. There can be a few reasons why your cleaner gets stuck in corners and the wheels will not move. Please review the Owners Manual to complete some troubleshooting before replacing parts, click here to view. After reviewing the cleaner. I also suggest reviewing the How To Tune Up A Polaris 280/180, you may find this helpful. To view all parts available for Polaris 280 please click here.

Should there be some water spewing around the edge of the diaphragm on the check valve mounted at pool wall. How do you determine if a check valve is bad thanks

Hello Larry, There is a Pressure Relief Valve attached to the wall fitting. This pressure relief valve will expel water when the return pressure is too high to prevent damage to the pool cleaner.

My rather old Polaris 180 frame (C145) broke - plastic holding one of the wheels shattered. Is this worth replacing? What would be the recommended Polaris product to replace the model 180? The booster pump is still good.

The Polaris 280 is a better replacement.

What is the difference between the Polaris 180 and the 280
Reply
The Polaris 180 uses a velcro bag, has a narrow throat and has 1 jet which propels it around the pool. The Polaris 280 uses a larger clip in style bag, has a larger throat and uses 2 jets to propel the cleaner.
