Unfortunately, there is no way to " Add-on " the chiller aspect to this heat pump. They are either heat pumps OR heat / cool pumps.

Hi, does this model have a reversing valve for power defrost? Thanks
Reply
Hello, Will. The Raypack R8350TI-E does not have a reversing valve for power defrost. If offers Power Frost that Allows the heat pump to operate in colder weather by keeping the heat exchanger tubes from developing frost. When the air temp drops below about 45F, the unit will shut down because there isn't enough heat in the air to allow for productive operation. Raypak does offer model PS9350ti with Rapid Defrost. Areas that are subject to lower ambient temperatures have a tendency to cause ice to build up on a heat pump's condensing coil. The Professional heat pump uses a patented refrigerant management system to rapidly defrost the heater. (The PS9350ti) currently is a Special Order item.

What is the difference between Raypack M8350ti-E-HC and M8350ti-E .
Reply
Val, The difference between the R8350TI-E-HC Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump W/ Chiller and the R8350TI-E Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump is that the R8350TI-E-HC has a chiller so it can cool the pool in the warmer months whereas the R8350TI is just a heater.

Under the "Warrenty Exclusions" section what does the statement
"This limited Warrenty does NOT apply"
Is there a Warrenty if so what is it?
Reply
Bob- Where it says "Warranty Exclusions" and then goes on to say "This Limited Warranty Does NOT Apply" it then goes on and lists reasons that would void the warranty or are not covered under warranty. The warranty on this heat pump, per Raypak, is as follow: If the Heater is installed in a single-family residential dwelling, the Applicable Warranty Periods are: two (2) years for labor and seven (7) years for parts, with no labor coverage in the third through seventh years. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the titanium tube component of the titanium heat exchanger is warranted for 10 years from the Effective Date, with no labor coverage in the third through tenth years. If the Heater is installed anywhere other than a single-family residential dwelling, the Applicable Warranty Period for the Heater and its parts is limited to only one (1) year, parts and labor.

Hi,
I am considering between the RS8350ti-E-QT Vs RS8350ti-E. Can you tell me the DB rating on both units. I read some place that e-qT is 59DB and need to confirm both and any other difference between the 2 besides 125K VS 133K output.

Hi, The RS8350ti-E-QT operates at a dB of 59, the dB rating is not listed for the RS8350ti-E but it will be higher than 59.

will the delivery person place this unit at its final location? it's about 100 feet from the driveway

Hello Chris, The delivery service will deliver the heat pump to the curbside. You would need to arrange with the delivery service to have the Heat Pump moved to the final location when scheduling the delivery. They may charge an additional fee for transporting the heat pump and payment would be arranged through that specific carrier, not related with InyoPools.

I personally would go with the RayPak and that would be the biggest one for RayPak. For a 50,000 gallon pool I'd recommend pairing it up with a solar blanket.

We have a 135,000 gal community pool with (2) Raypak Model C-R406A-EN-X ASME natural gas heaters. If it is time to replace them, could we use (2) heat pump heaters and if yes, which model would you recommend? We keep the pool at 82 degrees. It's located in Lafayette CA where the avg daily temp during the coldest swimming month is 62 and the warmest is 72 degrees. A solar cover is not feasible. Your advice is most welcome.
Reply
I would stick with the heaters. You would literally have to run those heat pumps non-stop for a pool that size. For a pool that size you would need 3-4 heat pumps to maintain that temperature. I would stay with the two heaters or go with one heater that will be able to handle the whole pool. That would be the Power Max, model number PM0750NACC2PXN or PM1000NACC2PXN. Either of these models will be the most efficient way to heat that size of pool.

Hello Dave- The warranty information can be found by clicking here. In short it is 2 years parts and labor, 7 years on parts, and the titanium component of the heat exchanger is warrantied for 10 years (if installed by a professional pool installer). The price difference for the R8350Ti-E-HC is because that is a Heat and Cool model, not just a heat pump like the R8350TI-E.

What is a heat pump for a pool, and what do you need to install it? A gas line would be a to long of a lay What about a propane pump, or a electric heater? Need help, it is for my daughter and three grand kids . THANKS
Reply
I would recommend a heat pump. It is electric and is going to be the most cost efficient. Heat pump will initially take a day or two to heat up but once it is heated the heat pump regulates the temperature that you have it set at and will only turn on when it drops below that temperature and only when the pool pump is circulating. I can help you select the correct size, I just need to know how many gallons the pool is, the distance from the pool pump to the skimmers, and what state you are located in.

Hi I have a Raypak RP 2100 gas heater which I want to replace with Raypak Standard 133K BTU Digital Heat Pump.
My question is the replacement be good enough size.
Can I use the same electrical wiring as the RP2100 and
How much space do I need for the heat pump, the space available is 4x4 would that be enough space.
Reply
Hi, This is the largest heat pump Raypak has. It's large enough fo heat most residential pools but to be sure we'll need the surface area of your pool. This unit requires a dedicated 60 amp 230 volt breaker so the electrical would haveto be upgraded. The unit can be placed on a 4'x4' pad but installation requirements can be found on page 7 & 8 of the Raypak Heat Pump Owner & Installation Manual.

My pool is 36,000 gallons and I currently have a 400,000 BTU Raypak propane heater. I can check the dimensions and see if this Heat Pump is sufficient for the pool. You mentioned that this only heats the water when the pool pump is on (which makes sense). I have a variable speed pool pump, does my pool pump have to be running at max speed...3450, to run this heat pump? Under normal use, I run the pool pump at 2650, would this heat pump operate at that setting?

Do you have the distance from your pump to your skimmers so I can calculate the flow rate to see if that flow rate will be adequate for that heat pump?

One more question, can I install this heat pump, the pool pump and a salt water generator on a 60 AMP (240 volt) line?

Hi Johnny, You will need a dedicated 50 amp breaker for the heat pump, and most likely you can wire the pump and salt system on to the same breaker and that would be a 30 amp breaker.

Reply
Hello- The biggest heat pump we would have to offer, 140k BTU, would not be able to reach the desired temperature for your pool based on the square footage provided and your location. Also, a heat pump will not be able to heat as fast as a heater or regenerate heat like your current heater can. If you were to purchase a heat pump I would recommend using it in tandem with your current gas heater.

Hi, Laz. You can use a 95-110K BTU heat pump to efficiently heat a 14,500 gallon pool in Central FL. However, you will need to calculate the surface area of your pool to also determine heat loss. The top manufacturers will be Raypak, Hayward, AquaCal.

Hi. This unit is not equipped with such a feature. This unit will only call to heat when the pump is in use. So if the pump is not operating during the night, the heat pump will not turn on saving energy in standby mode.

Definitely go with the 140k BTU. Trust me. I also have a 20' x 40' pool that's in the sun all day here in NJ and my 110k BTU heat pump takes many many hours to a few days to raise the temperature a significant amount. I use a solar cover to retain heat in at night. Heat pumps are very slow to heat pool water compared to gas. They are good at maintaining heat once the desired temp is achieved but if there's a cold night without the solar cover on it can be a while before the temp rises back up.

I am replacing an old 400,000 BTU propane pool/spa heater. We use it texclusively to heat the spa (approximately 10 feet by five feet & about three feet in depth). In Maine, outside temperature is between 50 degrees and 70 degrees when this will be operating. How long would it take this heat pump to heat my spa from 70 degrees up to 100 degrees? Takes approx. 40 minutes to an hour with our old 400,000 BTU propane heater - will this require double to triple the time?
Reply
Yes this will take at least double or triple the time.

The heat pump gets heat from the air so the warmer the air the better. The heat pump will take 3-4 times longer to heat versus the gas heater. Once it is up to heat you could just have it maintain the heat.

You can use the Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 140,000 BTU as well if you prefer, it will just get your water up to temperature a little faster.

We live Seattle, WA. My pool is 22,500 g. we just installed the 8450-TI yesterday. The high temp outside was 68 yesterday & today. Mostly shade due to trees surrounding the property. Upon start-up around 2 pm, water temp was 65 degrees. We put on solar blanket and left pump running all night. When we woke up the temp actually dropped 2 degrees, the overnight low last night was 50 and tonight it will drop to 52. Water temp is now 67, is this thing working? Can I exchange for Gas? Warranty?
Reply
Steven, the heat pump will not operate when the ambient temperature is 52 degrees or lower. The heat pumps use the outside air to grab heat and transfer that to the pool. Without heat for the unit to grab it does not operate. For this reason, we usually suggest a gas unit. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, we do not accept returns for heat pumps. Especially after they have been installed.

With only one water line going in and out of the M8450TI-E heat pump, how is the heat pump able to know when the spa has reached temp separately from the pool? Isn't the thermostat just reading that one line?
Reply
Hi David, You are correct that the heat pump can only read and display the temp. of the water going through the unit, but here is a bit more info. on how it works. The heat pump has a spa temp. setting and a pool temp setting, each of which you can set (i.e. 100 for the spa and 82 for the pool). So let's say you turn the spa on... then you would push the button on the heat pump for spa mode and then the heat pump would go to heating to 100 degrees and then say you turned the spa off and turn the pool back on then you would press the button on the heat pump for pool mode and the heating would go to 82. If you have an automated control system like the Aqualink or Hayward then this would all be done with a press of a button from the indoor controller. If you don't have an automated control system then this is a bit more of a manual process by pressing the button on the heat pump. I hope this helps.

And that makes complete sense to me now :) thanks so much!

Hi Scott, This would be a great replacement for your HP21104T and I like the idea of going larger on a heat pump. The only thing you will need to check is your breaker size as the Hayward HP21104T shows a minimum breaker size of 50 amps where the Raypak 140,000 has a minimum breaker size of 60 amps. If you do have a 50 amp breaker then to go with this heat Raypak heat pump you will need to replace the breaker with a 60 amp breaker.

Can you show me the energy comparison between the Hayward 140,000 btu and the Raypak 140,000 btu

Hi Barry, The efficiency of a Pool Heat Pump is rated on the Coefficient of Performance (C.O.P) the higher the C.O.P the more efficient the heat pump. The RayPak 140,000 BTU has a C.O.P of 5.6 where the Hayward 140,000 BTU has a C.O.P of 5.7 So in this case these two heat pumps are almost identical in efficiency.

How much does it cost to operate heat pump?
Our rate .22kw
Reply
You can figure about 5,000 watts or 5 kilowatts per hour per 100,000 BTU’s for a heat pump. For this 140,000 BTU heat pump, that’s 7 kilowatts per hour of operation times your electric rate of .22 cents per kilowatt-hour = $1.54 per hour. Electricity costs vary widely throughout the United States so check out this website updating the Electricity Costs for all 50 States. Be sure to use a solar blanket when you are not in the pool to help it retain heat.

The description says "3-Way Valve Control
Control and program 3-way valves to work with pool and spa mode on digital control. No external parts to buy."
But I've been advised to buy a 3-way valve when I purchased the unit. Should I be getting one or no? If so, what 3-way valve should I be getting? My pool system is slightly smaller than the fittings on this Heat Pump.

Hello Mike. Attached please find the Installation & Operating Instructions for the Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 140,000 BTU - 016033 Please note page 30, 3-Way Valve Control. The valves are not included with the Heat Pump. If this is a pool/spa combination body of water, 2 3-way valves would be required to isolate the spa from the pool. The CMP 3 Way Diverter Valve 1.5" Inside 2" Outside can accommodate 1.5" plumbing and 2" plumbing. Two Valve Actuator - 24V - 15ft would be required to transition the valves' operation from manual to automatic (controlled by the Heat Pump)
