Is 50,000 btu enough to heat an above ground 18ft pool? I don't know much about heat pumps but when I hear pump I am wondering whether or not this will replace my pump while heating the water. Will I still need my other pump that is hooked up to the filter, or does this do it all?
Reply
The 50,000 btu heat is sufficient for an 18' above ground pool. The heat pump does not move water so you will still need your existing pool pump.

Since a 50,000 btu heat pump is okay for an 18ft above ground pool, how long will it take to increase the temp by 10 degrees? I am trying to compare this product with a gas heater for 150,000 btu......Any info you can offer as to the difference will be appreciated.....I have been hearing good things about a heat pump vs. heater....

Hello, The length of time to heat the pool will depend on many factors. The starting temp., outdoor temp. and humidity will play a significant part in answering your question.

I have a 15 X 30 (17,000 gallons) above ground oval pool. What type of RayPak Heat Pump would you recomend?

Hi Greg, For your 17,000 gallon pool I would recommend at least the RayPak Compact Series Pool Heat Pump 85,000 BTUs. You can go bigger if you would like to heat your pool faster.

I have a 20 x40 in ground pool. What size Heat Pump would I need and how is it powered? Can my husband install it or does it require an electrician?

Hello, For a 20' x 40' pool, I would recommend a 140k btu heat pump. I would strongly recommend that a licensed contractor install the unit so that you can ensure that it is installed correctly and so that you will not have any issues with any future warranty claims.

If your pool is the average surface area based on this gallons in a residential pool, then it would be wise to consider going with the largest btu models for residential pools each manufacturer offers.

Hi, Nick. There is no issue with what to stated if your pump can provide the water flow needed.

my in ground pool is around 13000 gallons... my goal is to just achieve 75 degree temps... I'm in texas where id say average ambient temp in months id need this would be around 50 deg F... rarely less... would this model be good enough to achieve my goal and also are we talking 4 hrs run time a day or 8 hrs or what? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this and my questions remaining are basically about run time so i can get an idea of monthly operation cost
thank you

With 13,000 gallons I would not recommend anything less than 85,000 BTU. The heat pump will turn on when the water temperature drops below desired temperature while the pump is circulating so the run time could be different everyday.

we have a 17,000 gal above ground SuperSplash pool. Can you tell me what type & size of pump we need. Want to keep water about 83 deg. We have a black tube solar panel now which helps, works great during the summer when the sun is closer & hotter but it's windy where we live, so it sucks the heat out of it. Want to be able to use it year around. Also, do you ship to Maui, HI.??
Reply
I would not go lower than the 117,000 BTU model with 17,000 gallons, part number R6350TI-E. For the shipping, we would not be able to ship an item that big to Hawaii so we would be able to ship to the port of your choosing for free and you would be responsible with setting up the freight forwarder and the shipping cost for the freight forwarder.

How many BTU heat pump would I need for a 24" round x 48" deep above ground pool? We live in Ohio so we would mainly use it in May and Sept/Oct to heat the water to about 80 degrees F when the days are starting to cool off, but the nights sometimes are down into the 50-60 degree range. Also does it require 220? Thank you.

What is the estimated monthly/annual cost to operate?

I would suggest using the Pentair Heat Pump Calculator or the AquaCal Heat Pump Calculator and if you look at one of there heat pumps near 50,000 BTU's then you will get a good estimate of how much it will cost to operate this Raypak 50,000 BTU Heat Pump.

Hello, Do heat pump pool heaters work in the northeast where temps can get pretty high in the summer(NJ)
Reply
The heat pump heater has a fan that draws in the outside air and circulates air through an outer evaporator air coil.Liquid refrigerant within the evaporator coil absorbs the heat from the outside air and transforms it into a gas. The warm gas in the coil then passes through the compressor. The compressor increases the heat, creating a very hot gas that then passes through the heat exchanger condenser. As the gas and pool water is pumped through the heat exchanger, the hot gas transfers its heat to the water. The water is heated 3-5 degrees as it circulates through and then warmer water flows back into the pool. The hot gas, as it flows through the condenser coil, returns to liquid form and back to the evaporator, where the whole process begins again.

Hi Brent, as long as there is no backflow from the cell allowing chlorinated water into the heat pump then no it will not affect the heat pump. Using a check valve will assist in protecting the heat pump from backflow.
