Do I need to put silicone adhesive on the replacement Teflon washer used on the Hayward multiport filter valve?

How do you put this on under the valve handle?
Reply
Hello Mike - First, remove the 6-8 screws that hold the key, cover and handle assembly to the body of the valve. You will then need to compress the key, cover and handle assembly so that you can pop the pin out of the handle. You can pop the pin out by using a hammer and screwdriver. Once the pin is out you can disassemble the valve and replace the non-metallic bearing.

I need to replace the non-metallic bearing on my valve and I just read your explanation to Mike but I'm not understanding why I need to remove the screws before I depress the handle and tap the pin out. Do I remove the screws lift the entire assembly out of the body then depress the handle/spring to tap out the pin?

Hi, Gerry. It will be difficult to replace the Non-Metallic Bearing with the cover assembly still mounted to the valve body. Yes, you will have to remove the screws, lift the cover assembly out of the body, compress the handle/spring to tap out the pin.compress the handle/spring and tap out the pin in order to replace this bearing.

Can I just remove the pin in the handle to access and replace the teflon washer? My Valve is SP710XR50. I would rather not have to remove the entire assemble and deal with the spring if it's not necessary.
Thanks!

You should be able to remove the pin and the handle and replace that bearing no problem.
