Please note that capacitors store an electric charge and should be handled with the utmost caution and care. We do not encourage handling a capacitor without any type of safety measures in place and highly recommend contacting a professional service company for repair/replacement. For those that feel comfortable changing the capacitor here's >How to replace a pool pump capacitor. In order to match up the capacitor you will need more specifications on the capacitor. You will need to match the voltage, the MFD, whether or not the capacitor is a >run or >start type and the actual dimensions of the capacitor body.

i have an A.O. SMITH model #S48J2A4A8, HP 0.5, AMP 8.0, FR 56Y, Looking in your troubleshooter guide, i needed to check my capacitor, and after taking the cover off, the capacitor wasn't there. Do I need one? I'm also looking into replacing the pump to 0.75 HP, any recommendation?

Hi, Alung. The motor you have is not equipped with a capacitor. increase the pump's hp, you will have to also replace the pump's impeller to match the hp of the motor. If you can provide us with the pump model I can provided you with some option.
