Frank, The Flow Controller (ECX1055) goes at the end of the Check Valve (ECX4077B1).

If this part is damaged or missing, would it cause earth to release back into the pool?
Reply
The Flow Controller (ECX1055) if it is missing or damage will not cause D.E. to get back into the pool. You may have a damage DE Flex Tube, Tube Sheet or diaphragm.

What does the flow controller do? We just purchased a new filter and did not put this part in when assembling, do we need to take it apart and put part in or can it be used without it?

Hi Penny, The Flow Controller controls the water pressure flow going into the filter, I will recommend installing it mainly for backwashing purposes.

I have a new Hayward EC 45 earth filter with a 11/2 hp pump motor, the filter is putting earth back in the pool, I have had it apart 2 times and can't see any tears or cracks in the diaphragm, filter elements or the tube sheets. I did not have the flow controller in the inlet. My question is can the pump be sized to big for the filter and be pushing the earth through the filter elements.

Hi David, It's possible but can't say with a 100% certainty. You can contact Hayward directly at 908-355-7995 to troubleshoot this issue.

Kate, The flow restrictor simply sits in front of the check valve. It is not attached to it,

Where is the placement for this clear Pak-flow EC1055pak go/ Location?

Hello Enrico- The Controller, Flow (ecx1055) would go on the inside of the Star-Clear Check Valve (ECX4077B1) on the bottom of the filter.

is this flow controller needed on a EC40AC filter with a 1hp pump or can it be removed.

It is needed to prevent damage to the filter and blow back of DE and debris into the pool. The filter works best with water traveling through it at a slower speed.

Yes, it is needed

https://hayward-pool-assets.com/assets/documents/pools/pdf/manuals/Perflex-EC40AC.pdf?fromCDN=true It would be best to leave it in and watch your pressure gauge for a period of time. Avaerage clean would be 5 to 15 lbs
