What is Service Factor?

Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

my old motor has a capacitor, but I don't see one one this model, will it still work OK?

As long as your motor model, part or catalog numbers cross reference to this motor then yes it will work.

These two motors do have nearly identical specs but this one is specifically designed for the Northstar series pool pumps.

I need to replace my century USN1202 part 7-193687-02 motor. Will any usn1202 be acceptable I see 3 options when I enter this info with prices varying by $30 to $40 and was wondering if there is a difference

The A.O. Smith 2 HP Up Rated NorthStar Replacement Motor - USN1202 is the correct replacement motor, they will vary based on the needs of total HP. Please remember to replace the Pool Pump Shaft Seals

I need to replace my pump motor. It is a Hayward Northstar. The Part number is a 193223-03. It says it is a Century Centurion #SP1620-Z-1-BNS. I just need a generic motor. It doesn't have to be a Hayward motor. This pump is for my pool waterfall, as I have a rocks cape pool. It is not a pull pump.
Hello Lisa. The Hayward Pool Products Motor by Century Motors 2.0 HP Full Rate motor model SN1202 is the correct motor replacement. The expense is the result of the Total Horsepower of the original motor. Dropping horsepower would save money on the motor but would require an impeller and diffuser change which would result in a more expensive repair. The motor shaft seal (part key 10) and seal plate o-ring (part key 18) should be replaced concurrent with the new motor. Attached please find an exploded parts diagram for the Hayward NorthStar SP4000 Series. Please verify the model of your NorthStar as there is an older generation. Hayward NorthStar SP4000 Series Pump (1998-2007)
