What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

What shaft seal do I need? I'm replacing an A.O. Smith motor (QC1072) that is coupled to a WhisperFlo Model WFE-3.
Thanks

The correct shaft seal you would need is the PENTAIR SHAFT SEAL ASSEMBLY OEM (071734S) or the Generic Seal, Pump 1000 (psr 1000). The first is the manufacturer's version, the latter is the generic.

Hi Walter, The QC1072 uses the 20MFD 370V Run Capacitor (RD-20-370) and the 124-149MFD 125V Start Capacitor (BC-124).

I'm replacing the motor on my 1987 Hot Springs spa. It has a Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas pump PEXD-124UL and the motor is A.O.Smith K48K2PA101, 3/4HP. Please confirm that I need to order your QC1072. Also please advise which tune-up kit I should order for this pump.

Yes the QC1072 is the correct replacement motor for a K48K2PA101 motor.

Hi
The motor that you suggested to replace my A.O Smith 1 HP K48K2PA105C, is a (B2853) and is rated at 3/4 HP, the max load reads 12.6/6.3 and my K48K2PA105C is rated at 13.8/6.9.
Losing 1/4 HP seems like it might have a hard time. I do have solar panels and I am concerned this might work this motor to much.

With that particular energy efficient motor you will not be saving a whole lot, but the two motor are basically the same. Both have a total horsepower of 1.25 so putting out the same horsepower.

Will this be a fit with my stay-rite max-e-glass ii pool pump?

Yes, that will fit your Max-E-Glas but I can ensure it is the correct replacement if you have your part number from your motor.

I want to update the motor on sta-rite max-e-pro pentair water pool model: P6E6D-205L,
from .75 hp to 1.5 hp. what side of motor should I get 48Y or 56Y??
Reply
Hi, Tan. Either motor frame can be used. First, you will need to find out if your system can handle a 1.5 hp pump. Then replace the motor, impeller, diffuser, and seals.

this seems to be the exact motor i need to replace my VERY noisy existing one, that feeds my pools solar system. I am in the construction biz & fairly handy, i this something I could easily tackle replacing? Is the electrical complicated ? Do I need to purchase any additional parts other than pump - like gaskets etc?
Also I have NO room due to my existing pump being right up to a brick wall- will this slide out after bolts are removed ? Thanks for your help Bill
Reply
Yes, it is recommended to replace the seals and gaskets so you will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor bolts to. If you are unable to locate that then you can email us pictures to upload@inyopools.com so we can advise. Also being that the pump is close to the wall it is tough to confirm whether you will have enough room but the motors do slide away from the housing.

I want to replace the bearings on my Century QC1072 (K48K2PA101A1); it's very noisy. Can you advise on the correct parts? I recently replaced the shaft seals however I suspect damage to the pump bearings occurred while the seals were leaking. Thank you!

This is the correct replacement motor and in order to locate the correct seal kit you will need to know the model name or number of the front pump housing that the motor actually bolts to. If you do not know that information then you can always take a picture of it and email that image to upload@inyopools.com.

Hello,
I have a sta-rite pump model # RE5D-181L. The motor started overheating at the end of last season. It looks like the QC1072 motor is the correct replacement, can you advise the pump-seal part #? I have attached a couple of reference pics.
Also - Does it make sense to just replace the motor, or should the whole pump be replaced?
Thank you, Rob
Is this the replacement motor for a Pentair Sta Rite P6E6D-205L Max E Pro 3/4 HP? Also need the tune up kit and strainer basket.
I am needing to replace an A.O. Smith #U27-1235 #K48K2PA105C1 motor with SF 1.65, HP .75, FR 48Y specs.
It is mated with a P4E6D-186L Max-e-glas lol pool pump. It was installed in 2001.
What is the best replacement motor for this and and more energy efficient with less amps used?
Is my old motor an ‘up rated’ or ‘full’ rated motor?
Thank you.

Hello,The 5321-1 is the best model to go with. Also, you will need the GOKIT38 to replace your seals.

Hi, William. We recommend that you replace the shaft seal as well when you replace the motor. To determine the shaft seal you need, I would need the model number of your pump which is located on the plastic pump housing.

Hi,
Can you please help me with the tune up kit for this pump with a badly damaged label?
You will need to use the GOKIT54 that you can view by clicking here. Please be advised that if you have the copper cone insert in the seal plate it will need to be removed.

Thank you! i do have the cone and will discard it.

Replacing a STA-RITE MAX E PRO P6E6D-205L (k48k2pa105c1), is this 1-1 replacement? Gokit79? Anything else recommended?
Thanks in advance!
Hi Chris - the QC1072 motor will be a perfect replacement for the k48k2pa105c1 on your Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Pump, and the GoKit79 Tune-Up Kit will let you replace all of the worn-out o-rings and the motor shaft seal when you change it out. Be sure to keep the sticker from the capacitor housing so you can remember what the model number of the pump is, but be careful if you remove the housing; the capacitor will hold an electric charge and can be dangerous.

Can I use purchase this in California? I am looking for a replacement motor for K48K2PA105C1.
Thanks.

Hello, unfortunately this motor is not California Title 20 Compliant. Your options would be either the B981 (please see product description) or the ECM16SQU. We also recommend replacing the seals and gaskets when replacing a pool pump motor. Here is our "Finding the Tune-Up Kit for Your Pool Pump" guide that should assist you with that.
