Hi, The easiest way to install is separate it leaving the locking nut in place, then connect the locking nut to the other side.

Does the o-ring come with the pump side union half (glued in the groove or separate) ? I tried to remove the old o-ring, it was leaking, and it appears that it was glued into the o-ring groove. I could not remove the leaking o-ring without scratching the groove and leaving pieces of the o-ring in the union groove.

Hello, Jerry. The O-Ring/Gasket (SPX1425Z6) and (SPX1485C) should not be glued in. It may corroded by chlorine or years of use.

Hi, Roger. This union does not have such a feature. That part is specific to the D.E. Filter you have.
