have a sta rite pool heater. can't adjust temperature up or down using buttons. does it require replacement of membrane panel kit? is it something i can do myself?

Hi Larry, Normally issue would be a bad membrane kit or the Max-E-Therm Control Board. I would double check with Sta-Rite (now Pentair) at 1-800-831-7133 to confirm which part needs to be replaced. The actual replacement is pretty easy the hardest part is troubleshooting which part needs to be replaced.

Hi Mike, It's possible that the Heater Control Board is bad again. The only way to confirm is to replace it.

How hard is it to change the control board not being a technician? The heater is a STA-RITE SR200N

Hi Paul, if you are comfortable changing out a light switch or electrical outlet this should not be a major challenge. Take your time and note the steps to disassemble it so you don't have any issues putting it together (I use my cell phone camera to capture images when doing tasks like this so I am sure to get everything back where it belongs). Search YouTube for videos - there are a couple on there that might be helpful for you. Always be safe and turn the power off before working on anything, and don't hesitate to hire a qualified pool professional if you need to.
