When should I change the sand in my filter?
Reply
You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

How often do I have to replace the sand in my filter? What is normal operating pressure?
Reply
On a "fresh start-up" a filter would operate anywhere between 10-20 psi. As a general rule of thumb you only want to backwash when the pressure increases 8-10 psi. You want to make certain that the pump is being turned off whenever you move the handle on the valve. Once backwashing is complete (3-5 minutes), you can switch to the rinse option to re-settle the sand bed. Sand will typically last 5-7 years. Premature backwashing will wear down the size of the sand which will cause difficulties such as cloudy water and higher operating pressures.

Hi!
I request some information.
the sand and the filter are shipped separated?
Is there a chance to purchase the filter only, since I do not need the sand?
Thanks for your attention

Hi Ricardo, We do not include sand with our filters. If sand is needed it would be purchased separately.

My filter is operating at a low 4 lbs pressure on the Filter setting. It's only a year old and if I'm not mistaken, last year it ran about 10 lbs when clean. No obstruction in my intake line or pump. Any ideas?

Hi Bill, We have a good guide here on How to Troubleshoot Low Pressure in a Pool Filter. The comments at the bottom of the guide also have some very useful information in them. If you need any more assistance please let us know.

I'm tired of replacing tops on my Hayward EC-65 DE filter. If I switch to Sand, which brand and size do you recommend for an 18,000 in-ground? I believe my connections might be 2", is that a problem for flow, to adapt them?
Reply
Hi John, This would be the exact filter I would reccomend for your sized pool and we have had great success with the Jacuzzi Laser line of sand filters. You would be okay with adapting your 2" pipe down to 1-1/2" pipe.

I am purchasing a used Jacuzzi laser sand filter and pump. How do we get the sand out so we can get it home?? Can the motor/pump be plugged and tested without being hooked to an existing pool?
Reply
The easiest way to get sand out is a wet / dry vac. You would remove a good 2/3 of the sand. You just need to be careful of the laterals at the bottom. You could open the drain plug ( given that there is one ) and run water in the tank and the sand will come out that way as well. As for testing the motor, you should not run a pump dry as it can hurt the seals that are inside.

I would like to replace my sand filter unit. I have an above ground pool (16 X 33). I presently have a Jacuzzi laser 225 unit with a broken top valve mount. Should I replace the whole unit or just the mount. if so, what size would you recommend.
Reply
If the area where the multiport valve is attached and is not cracked or showing damage, I would simply replace the valve. Please also take note of how old the system as a whole is. If it is only 5-7 years, then just the valve. If it is over 15 , you may want to consider a whole new unit. If you do decide to replace the whole unit, just know you can never have to big a filter.

last summer I started getting sand in my pool after I backflushed. I was advised to check inside the laterials. Replaced the sand. Probably the valve on top right?
Would like to replace the valve on top. Is this possible?

Hi Gary, For a pool as large as yours we would recommend this Jacuzzi Laser 25" Sand Filter as it will be large enough to handle the output of your 1.5 HP Magnum pump. Going with a larger filter will mean less stress on your pump motor resulting in longer motor life, the larger filter also has a bigger cleaning capacity meaning more time between cleanings.

Have Jacuzzi L225-7C sand filter. Have winterized by taking plug at bottom out. Took dial valve off and still see some standing water at the base of the standpipe. Is this normal or is there some water left at the bottom of the filter all winter. Never had dial valve off before after winterizing to see if it was the same each year
Reply
Yes, that is normal to still have a little water in the bottom after draining.

I have an inground pool. It has an original L 225 jacuzzi sand filter which has developed a leak at a seam. I wondered if this one would work for my pool. My pump is fine. On other sites this model is listed as an above ground pool filter and from what I have seen, it only appears to make a difference if you do or do not have a self priming pump. I have a self priming pump. I just need to know for sure if this would work with my inground pool.

Hi, This model filter will replace the unit that you have. This filter can be used to filter an in ground pool as long as the filter's maximum flow rate is not exceeded which is 66 GPM.

I have a 16x36 pool with what maybe the original jacuzzi sand filter from 1960s and now it is pushing sand into the pool.
Does the whole unit need to be replaced or can soemthing be fixed or are parts avaiable?

Hi, I would recommend replacing the entire unit since yours is more than 50 years old and replacement parts may not be available for a unit that old.

we have a jacuzzi laser sand filter, need to replace, is this model for a 10,000 gallon pool?

Hi, Marie. Pool filters are sized based on the pump's flow rate not only on the pool size. This filter can filter 31,700 gallons of water in an 8 hour period with a flow rate of 66 GPM.

Got into a jam and needed a quick out got used 190L can that handle a 30' round above ground pool and can handle a 2 speed pump ? Unit might be 10yrs old .
If not the 225L you have can handle it seems correct .
Thanks for your help

Hi Ray, Ideally you would go with the 225L for a 30' round pool but you should be fine the 190L filter you have.

Hi. You can use the Carvin Laser Sand Filter Dimensional Specs to find out if this unit will fit. The port configuration is same as the older model.

What kind of sand and how much do I put in a jacuzzi Alp98250?

I have a jacuzzi L225-7 that I am replacing the sand. The previous owner used a layer of pea gravel at the bottom. Is this a recommended practice to layer the pea gravel over the laterals and the fill with sand?
Reply
A layer of pea gravel near the laterals is fine as it helps keep the sand away from the laterals as the majority of the water cleaning will be done in the upper layer of the sand bed.

You will need to confirm the specific model valve that you have in order to cross-reference the correct sight glass for it. It should be labeled on the top of the valve label itself.
