When should I change the sand in my filter?
Reply
You should change the sand in your filter every 5-7 years. You can generally tell that it is time if your pool water is not as clear as it normally is or when you notice the interval between backwashes is shorter. You can use > this guide to walk you through it.

How often do I have to replace the sand in my filter? What is normal operating pressure?
Reply
On a "fresh start-up" a filter would operate anywhere between 10-20 psi. As a general rule of thumb you only want to backwash when the pressure increases 8-10 psi. You want to make certain that the pump is being turned off whenever you move the handle on the valve. Once backwashing is complete (3-5 minutes), you can switch to the rinse option to re-settle the sand bed. Sand will typically last 5-7 years. Premature backwashing will wear down the size of the sand which will cause difficulties such as cloudy water and higher operating pressures.

I currently have a Jacuzzi DE filter, can I replace this with a Sand filter and what are the advantages or disadvantages of DE vs Sand?
Reply
Yes you can go from a D.E. filter to sand but just keep in mind that you will be going from the best filtration to the least efficient. Also the sand filter may not be able to handle as much pressure. Sand is common in the north east market though. At least consider a cartridge filter which would be like taking the middle road.

Can I use this filter as a replacement for a SFTM 25. Why is it called a laser sand filter
Reply
Hi, This Jacuzzi Laser Sand Filter L250 can replace the Jandy SFTM25 filter. That's just the manufacturer's name of the filter.

Would the L250-7C 25inch be powerful enough for an inground pool size 20 X 40
Reply
Hi Harold, The Laser L250 Can filter 31,700 gallons of water in an 8 hour time frame. if your 20' x 40' is less than 31,700 gallons this will be sufficient for your pool or you will need to run it longer.

Is this filter big enough for my 40,000 gal in ground pool?
Reply
Hi Dan, it would really be dependent on the size pump you have. In most circumstances this filter is good for pumps up to 1.5 HP. If you have a 2 HP pump then I would suggest a 30" Hayward Sand Filter.

How much sand does it require and will it be shipped overnight?

The Jacuzzi Laser Sand Filter, Top Mount, L250-7C, 25", 1-1/2" Valve requires 350 lbs. of sand. This item is only available for a truck line delivery which is approximately 5-7 business days.

I have a Jacuzzi 250L sand filter. The multiport valve on it has no recirculate setting on it. When you want to bypass the filter what setting do you put it on. They have a test setting and I am not sure that is the one I should use .
Reply
Hi Donna, The "Whirlpool" setting is the same a recirculate or bypass.

Hello, would this filter be a good match for a Pentair VS 1.5 HP pump?
Reply
Hi, Dan. This L250-7C sand filter is a good match for the Pentair Superflo VS Pump if the flow rate at 3450 RPM does not exceed 82 GPM.

Pool supplier is advising me to replace my 2004 Jaquzzi 250 L filter that came with my pool when it was installed in 2004. Pool supplier is saying that I only need 250lbs of sand for the filter, but this site is stating that you need 350lbs of sand for this filter. Please explain why pool supplier is stating 250lbs needed and site is saying 350lbs? Pool supplier is Lipps Pool and Spa of Florence, Kentucky. Also are there any rebates or discounts being offered right now.

Hello Charles, this unit does hold 350 LBS, depending on the pool companies some don't fill the unit all the way. I apologize, but there is no discounts, if you like our page on Facebook you can get $10 off coupon.

Does it come with the sand in it and ready to use?
Reply
Hi Colella, No the sand is not included. This filter requires 350 lbs. of sand which is normally sold at your local hardware store in 50 lbs. bags for $5 per bag.

How do you measure the size of an existing Laser Sand Filter? Is it diameter? I have a Jacuzzi brand and everything's faded and unreadable on valve and filter. Thx
Reply
Hi. Measuring the tank diameter of the existing Laser filter will let you know the size and which one you'll need to replace it with.

My ST-33 tank cracked over the winter. Are replacement tanks available?
Reply
Hi, Mark. Replacement tanks are not available for the Jacuzzi - ST-33 sand filter. You will have to replace the entire unit with a new Sand Filter.

how do you know if something is clogged inside the filter? Do i need more sand for the proper pressure?
Reply
Katherine, It is not likely that there is something clogged inside of the filter. If the pressure gauge is reading high, you can try backwashing the filter. If that doesn't work, you can try changing the sand if it is more than 5-7 years old.

When closing pool for the winter, does the sightglass need to be removed? Thanks. My manual doesn't mention it but my grandson thinks it should come out.
Reply
You do not necessarily need to remove the sight glass but yes you can if you would like. It may help to remove the water from the valve itself.

Looking at the valve picture, i did not see the (6) bolt holes to fasten the replacement valve to the Jacuzzi laser sand filter.
Please advise.

If you have the 6 bolt design version then you can use either part number 4625-80 or 26-105-1018.

Am using L250C-LC filter. What is it's maximum flow rate? The 'filter family pressure drop curve', shown in operation/installation instructions, stops at 66gpm at approximately 11.5 psi. Also, the 'PUMP SELECTION' section of those instructions say to use an optimal circulation rate of 25 U.S. gallons per minute per square foot of filtration surface. What is the area of the filtration surface?
Reply
Hi, Pat. The maximum flow rate is 83 gpm and the filtration surface area is 3.32.
