What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

Is there such a thing as a two speed motor with just a simple high / low manual switch as opposed to these programmable things with LCD screens?
Reply
Hi Steve, The A.O. Smith 2 HP Dual Spd. Full Rate Motor (B2984) would be the motor without the controller and you can use the A.O. Smith 56Y FR Toggle Switch and Canopy (2512558-001) to manually control the speeds.

will this fit on my EcoStar model # sp3400vsp pump. It is a variable speed now but I would like to install a 2 speed on it

Hi Carl, This B298T Motor can replace the existing motor on the Hayward EcoStar pump. I would also recommend replacing the Shaft Seal - SPX3200SA, Diffuser - SPX4000Z1 and the Housing O-ring - SPX3200T.

I need a new motor for a Jandy SHPM 2.0-2. The motor is a Century 2HP 2 speed. The part number is 7-193990-07. Frame Y56Y, Type is CXPM SF 1.10.
I am not sure what the part number is I should order. Is the B2984T appropriate? What is the Box on the top and do I need that?
Thanks

I have a zodiac FHPM 2.0-2 2 speed pump. Would this be a correct replacement?
Reply
Yes, This motor will work as a replacement. It has a controller with a timer. If you do not need that then you can get just a dual speed motor. Which would be 2 HP Dual Spd. Motor - Full Rate (B984, B2984) you will also need to replace the shaft seal and the o-rings and you can find those here Jandy Flo Pro Pump FHPM Parts

I have in my pool Sta Rite Max E pro square flanges single Speed, Pump i like is 2Hp full rate Dual Speed W/Digital controller Pump B2984T. I like to know this is the right motor I choose? thankyou for you help.

Yes, that motor will fit on your Max-E-Pro. What is the horsepower of your current motor? This is important for me to know so that you are getting the same horsepower, otherwise you will have to get a new impeller as well.

I have a Sta-Rite 2HP P6RA6G-207L motor (bearing is shot). I want to replace it with a dual speed motor. I was told I should buy the B2983T motor. It is rated 1.5/.19 HP. Do I buy this or the B2984T rated at 2.0/2.5 HP. I have a 20,000 gallon pool. Also my pump is four years old, should I upgrade that at the same time?
Reply
Hi, Jeffery. The B2983T dual speed motor is the correct motor you will need to operate your pump. If you replace it with the B2984T motor which has a higher total HP than your pump is equipped to handle you will need to replace the impeller also. I would also recommend that you get the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Tune Up Kit - GOKIT79.

My current pump has the same info as this pump (mine says 2 HP, 56Y frame, 3450 RMP, 208-230V) but SF AMP on my pump label is 10.6-10.0 and it says "Class B" for the INS. Can this pump replace my pump?

There really isn't quite enough information that you have here to confirm but if you plug in your motor model number, part number or catalog number into our search for an item bar then your specific replacement would come up giving you further specifications of your motor. You can also send in an image through our support request page so we can assist in locating that motor.

Purchased a B2984T on 5/24/14. Installed and ran for ~1.5 years when the LCD display began failing, and in 1/17, was effectively totally shot. Only way to control was with CB. There are NO REPLACEMENT parts for the LCD, so now I have a 2+ year old 2-speed motor that is worthless. If you can now sell me a 'controller' kit and/or parts, I would be ecstatic. If not, answer me, why should I buy this product?

Hi, Charles. Unfortunately, the controller is not repairable. This motor simplifies the use of having an external controller like the T106R Timer in most cases. If you still would like the benefits of a dual speed pump you can use the B984 motor along with the T106R Timer or Toggle Switch and Canopy Kit - 2512558-001

I have an old pump motor that needs to be replaced. It is a C48M2PA100, square flange, 2 hp motor with a Max e Pro pump. Can this two speed motor be used? What additional parts will I need.

Hi, Guy. Based on the model number provided you will need the B2983T motor along with the Sta-Rite Max-E-Pro Tune Up Kit - GOKIT79.

Does this motor come with the necessary gaskets and if not, which would I buy and do the gaskets come with instructions? Also, assuming my existing impeller is ok, would it work with this motor?
Reply
These motors do not come with the seals and gaskets. You can call in with the front pump housing model name or number to try and cross reference those parts but if you do not have that information then you can email images to upload@inyopools.com so we can assist. We do have some how to guides on our site and you should be able to use the same impeller as long as it is compatible with this motor.

I have a Century Centurion pool and spa duty motor, which is not working. Frame is Y56Y, HP 2.0, SF 1.10, RPM 3450, volts 230. Is this motor comparable with this energy efficient motor. AND are they difficult to install yourself. THANK YOU!!!!!!!

Hi, Matt. This 2-Green B2984T Motor is compatible with the motor you currently have. It's not too difficult to replace a pool pump motor. You can view our How To Replace the Motor on Your Pool Pump guide to see how it's done.

What is the temperature range of this motor? I live in Las Vegas where the temperature routinely exceeds the 40 degree C rating on many pumps, and often even exceeds 48. If this pump is not rated at 50 C, which of your similar pumps are? (2 HP, dual speed, 56Y square flange) Thanks.

Bob, The motor has a temperature rating of 50°C.

I have a Max E Pro 2spd 2.25 hp. The bearings went out and I was wondering if this motor and dig controller would work on my pump system. The system controller is a Hayward dig controller. I didn't see any bearings on your sight for my motor P6RA6YG-207L

Hi, Mike. You will need to provide us with the motor model or part # so that we can locate the bearings. This motor will work with your pump, however, is not compatible with any Hayward Automation Controller. I would recommend staying with the UQS1202R motor as the replacement.

I’ve got a separate digital timer running a single speed motor now. Would this motor and timer function properly if I installed with my existing timer in place and left it in the “on” position? I want to do as little electrical work as possible.

Hi, Matt. Yes, it will. You will have to remove the on/off trippers and leave the timer in the on position so that it constantly supplies the motor with power.

I have this motor/controller combination but the motor portion is failing (over-current errors on controller display, low speed is very noisy and only runs for few seconds before error appears)
As your website says the B2984T is discontinued, can I just buy a replacement motor (B2984) and re-install the controller on the new motor?

Hello, You would have to get a toggle switch or a dual speed timer for the new motor. You will not be able to put the drive on the new motor.
