Can I install my self? What is the refrigerant? Must it be replenished?
Reply
Yes, anyone can install the pool cooler themselves. In the bottom basis in the box is the installation ,operation manual with diagram and parts list. You can go to a local hardware store and get the proper installation parts. There is no refrigeration, no freon or gas to operate. Electric 110 Volt 60 Hertz 8 Amps fan does the work. This unit hooks up with the pool pump breaker. The home breaker powering the pool pump and pool cooler must be 20 Amps or above.

Does the Glacier pool cooler have a thermostat? If not how do you regulate temperature?
Reply
The GPC does not come with a temperature control. In most cases an owner will run their cooler at night along with their pool's cycle. An owner may find that running the pool a longer or shorter amount of time will give them their optimal temperature.

What size breaker does this unit require and what is the running amp draw?
Reply
The cooler piggy backs off the pool pumps power, so the combined amperage will require a 20 amp breaker. The cooler maxes at around 8 amps (when it is initially turned on) and averages 4 amps while it is running.

Is this an evaporative cooler - or does it just cool water by running at night with lower temperatures? How does it work?
Reply
Yes, this system is based on evaporative cooling. The manufacture has modified the technology to accommodate the swimming pool industry. The pool water is circulated through the system while a fan cools the droplets and removes the heat from the water instantly. The water is then pumped back into the pool lines and circulated back into the pool.

Our summer temperatures average 98-103. Our pool is extremely warm. How much of a drop in water temperature can we expect? Does the unit have to run continually to be effective and finally, what type of operating costs can be attributed to this unit?
Reply
The pool cooler will drop the pool 10 to 15 degrees. The operating costs are around a dollar a night on running the cooler 10 hours. It does not have to run continually, just run it at night when the sun is off the pool and it will perform and drop this pool down and be refreshing.

Can this cooling system be used with a salt water pool?
Reply
All of the chillers we carry are salt water compatible. After a couple of weeks of usage, spray down the pool cooler with a garden hose to wash off salt residue if any.

What is the pad footprint required for the GPC25? I see is shows width of 34", but wasn't sure if it required additional spacing, as I'm wanting to install in between 2 A/C units.
Reply
34" is the basin diameter, this unit fits on a 2X2 pad. You need to have at least 2 inches on each side for clearance.

How cold with this unit make my pool? Will it get it down to 50 degrees?
Reply
Glacier has advised me that their pool coolers will not drop water temperature down to 50°. You can get a 12° to 15° degree drop from hot water temps of 90° to 98°.

When the weather gets a little cooler I can by pass the chiller, right.
Reply
Yes we would suggest a diverter valve which would allow you to by pass the chiller.

I have 12,500 gallon salt water pool in orlando Fl. pool temp is already up to 95 degrees during the day. I have solar that i run at night that gts it down to 87 but it quickly get back over 90 when the sun comes up. ot even sure the solar is doing much as the i think the pool temp would drop to that on its own at night. I have a semi dark pebble finish. Which unit would you reccomend?
Reply
HI Matt, The manufacturer recommends going to the next larger size if you have a pebble finish and your pool size is close to the upper limit. At 12,500 gallons you should be fine with the GPC25 unit.

My GPC25 was delivered today ON A PALLOT. It is due to be installed on Thursday. You mention that an installation and parts needed list is in the bottom of the BOX. Will I find this information in the actual unit----which is shrink wrapped and on a pallot?

Hi Larry, The instructions and manual is located in the box.
