The Compupool Salt Chlorine Generator is a high-performance salt water chlorination system that lets you enjoy perfectly clear pool water without the use of harsh chemicals. It is a safe, clean, easy alternative to dosing your pool with dangerous and expensive chemicals. The Compupool Salt Chlorine Generator is setup and automatically controlled by its Compupool Control Unit. This guide shows you how to operate and read the touch pad controls and LED lights on the Compupool Control Unit.

Step 1

ON/OFF – This button turns power to the Control Unit on and off. In an OFF state, all LEDs are off and the display will show the current time and POWER OFF. To turn the Control Unit ON, press the button once. The POWER ON LED and one of the POLARITY 1 or 2 LEDs will illuminate and the display will show time and the % of current Chlorine Output setting. Note that this button only turns on power to the Control Unit. The SET TIMER and OUTPUT functions (described next) may have to be set to pass power to the Cell and generate chlorine.

Step 2

SET TIMER – The Control Unit has the option of working off an external timer or off of two internal timers. This function allows you to set two internal timers to generate two chlorination cycles per day. To enter the timer mode, press the SELECT button and hold it for 3 seconds. The Display screen will ask WHAT LANGUAGE? Select a language with the up and down arrows. Then press SELECT again. The Display will now show WHICH TIMER? EXTERNAL. If you want to bypass the internal timers, press SELECT to go to the next setting (SET CLOCK). If you want to set the internal timers, press the down arrow to change the setting to INTERNAL. Pressing the SELECT button again will display ON TIME 1. Select the start time hours for Timer 1 with the up/down arrows. To change AM to PM, you have to keep scrolling through the hours until you get to the AM or PM setting you need. To set the minutes, use the right OUTPUT arrow to move the cursor from under the hours to under the minutes and then change minutes with the up/down arrows. Press the SELECT button to display OFF TIME 1 – set the end time for Timer 1. Set TIME 2 using the same process as above. Then press SELECT once more to SET CLOCK. A final push on SELECT will exit and return your Display to normal operation mode.

Step 3

SET CHLORINE OUTPUT LEVEL –The Chlorine production level can be set from 0% to 100 % in increments of 10%. To set the production level, press the OUTPUT arrows left or right. The % Output level will be shown in the Display. Note, at a Output level of 0% the Cell is turned off and the display will read OUTPUT OFF.

Step 4

SUPERCHLOR - There are occasions when you will need higher than normal amounts of chlorine to be generated - when you have an abnormally high swimmer load, after a heavy rain, or if you have a cloudy water condition. To increase the level of chlorination, simply press the SUPERCHLOR button. This electronically "super chlorinates" the water by increasing output to 100% for a cumulative 24 hours. If, for example, your pump runs 8 hours a day, the Cell will remain in SUPERCHLOR mode for three days before returning to normal operation. Or, if you elect to stop SUPERCHLOR at any time, you can simply push the SUPERCHLOR button again to return to normal operation.

Step 5

WINTER MODE - If you are not using your pool during the winter months, we recommend that you put the chlorinator in WINTER MODE by pressing the WINTER MODE botton. This reduces the output of chlorine by 50% of your current output setting. For example, if your output is set at 80%, pressing the WINTER MODE button will reduce the output to 40%. To return to normal operation in the spring, push the WINTER MODE button again.

Step 6

MANUAL OVERRIDE - If the Control Unit is operating between the two internal timers (between OFF TIME 1 and ON TIME 2), it's in IDLE mode and the Cell in OFF. To manually override this function, press the SUPERCHLOR button. The cell will come on in SUPERCHLOR mode.

Step 7

POWER LED - When this LED is illuminated, the Compupool Control Unit has input power. This only indicates that the Control Unit has power. The timer has to be on and the output level must be greater that 0% for the cell to be active and generating chlorine.

Step 8

POLARITY 1 or 2 LEDs - When either is illuminated, it shows which end of the cell is producing chlorine.

Step 9

WATER FAULT LED - When illuminated, the flow switch has detected that no water is flowing and the cell has stopped generating chlorine. The Display will read NO WATER. Check pump operation.

Step 10

ADD SALT LED - When illuminated, the salt level is too low and the cell is generating at low efficiency. Additional salt should be added. See our guide on "How To Add Salt To Your Pool".

Step 11

OVER SALT LED - When illuminated, indicates that the salt level is too high. To get the salt level back to acceptable levels and turn off this LED, purge some water out the WASTE line of your filter and add fresh water to the pool. See our guide on "How To Reduce the Salt Level In Your Pool". If you do not bring the salt level to within the acceptable, the cell will draw more current, run hotter, and fail.sooner than normal.

I have a CPSC36 model with low chlorine production. I noticed today that the output changes in 10% increments; however, the bars do not change and the chlorine production does not change as I move from 100% to 0%. I noticed that during salt testing or verify one, that the chlorine production was much more than when it is running at a 100%. Please help.

Rs9748 - Blown Fuses (Pre-2011 as 2011 units have reset buttons.) To check the fuse, remove the power pack from the wall. Remove the 6 screws from the bottom and lift the housing cover off. The fuse is located on the circuit board. Verify that a grounding wire has been installed to the grounding lug. Replacement Fuses are as follows: 3.15 amp slow blow fuse for the CPSC08, CPSC16 and CPSC24 units wired at 220v; 5 amp slow blow fuse for the CPSC16, CPSC24, CPSC36, CPSC48 wired at 110v; 5 amp slow blow fuse for the CPSC36 and CPSC48 wired at 220v. If problem not resolved, contact Compu Pool Products at (888) 989-7258, Ext. 401

grice - The newer CPSC models no longer show the ppm. They just tell you that your "salt level is OK". Take a water sample to your pool store and have him verify that your salt level is above 3200. Chlorine will not be generated before that value. If you still have problems, call Compupool direct at 1-888-989-7258 x401. Their technical staff will be glad to help you.

just got a compupool salt chlorine generator for our above ground pool, it is up and running but not producing chlorine....how do you tell the ppm??? Is there any way you can tell on the machine?

mkit8971 - Water chemistry may be off. Have a pool store do a water analysis for you including salt level to verify your own reading. If salt level is below 3200 ppm, system will not produce chlorine. If your stablizer is greater than 100, it will eliminate the chlorine as fast as it's produced. Another thing to check is the wiring connection to the cell - red wire to top, blue wire to center and black wire to bottom. If you still have a problem, call Compupool direct at 1-888-989-7258 x401. Their techinal staff will be glad to help you.

Anjin - There is no user lock out capability. If, however, your system had a power surge, you will get a "Not Genuine- call dealer" message. Your system has to be reset by the dealer. Call Compupool's number - 1-800-989-7258 x401 for further information.

I bought a CPSC24 a week ago. Installed it. Set up the timer, salt level is perfect. Come home to a green pool. Tried to superchlor, and now that button is stuck. It literally flashes between the normal screen and "superchlor 23:59" every second. This is only the second day it was on.

We have jist moved into the house and None of the controls are responding on our unit. Is their a lock feature to prevent someone from changing the settings? Even the power won't turn off using the power button.

Gator - If this is an new install, "all lights on" is an indication that you have 110V coming in to a control box that is currently setup for 220V. Units come from the factory set up for 220V. See instructions in the owner's manual for switching the jumpers inside the control box to convert from 220V to 110V.

I have the cpsc16. How can I determine my ppm reading? It only says salt level is ok. Doesn't it give an actual numeric readout? I had to take a sample to the pool store, where I was told my ppm was at 3600. Does this machine not give a numeric readout or am I just not finding it?

Wes, The plug ports are only available on units sold for above ground pools - designated with an AG at the end of the product part number. Also these units are only available for up to 26,000 gal size pools and would not be available for the CPSC36 unit you purchased. As to your question on battery backup, that is integrated in the circuit board inside the control box. The backup feature is designed for long term memory. If for example you turned off the unit for winter and stored it, the data saved would be there when you reinstalled the unit in the spring.

I just purchased a CPSC36 in ground pool Chlorinator. It arrived today and I was looking it over to get an idea for installation.... From what I read in the brochure it was suppose to have a plug port to plug the pump into but does not.... I also dont see any kind of battery back-up. Did I get a old model, or was what I read a figment of my imagination?

Terry, I just talked to Compupool. When the system first comes up , it flashes "Compupool Ultraclean" to indicate that this is a Compupool product then goes into regular operation. It is not a test. If your LED display shows power on and one of the polarity light on, you are in normal operation mode.

The CPSC Series unit runs through a test mode when the unit powers on. The test mode will test the water temperature and salt reading and generate chlorine. After the test the unit will display the Salt Reading in Parts Per Million (ppm)for a few seconds. To obtain the last test result hold the "Select" button for three seconds which takes you into the Select Menu. You can cycle through the options in the menu by pressing Select. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Compu Pool Products at (888) 989-7258, Ext. 401

I went to adjust the chlorine level and when I pushed the button, I got the word "test" on the screen. I was unable to adjust anything. I turned the unit off then back on and was able to hit the superchlor button. What does the "test" mean? I could find nothing about this in the owners manual. Thanks!

With time and use the clamp-on connectors in the plug to the cell sometimes get loose. Try closing the connectors slightly with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I do not understand why Compupool does not list all possible problems and advise to common readings, so that their customers can make necessary simple adjustments or at least tell us what is wrong, and advise us.For no apparent reason My Compupool reads "call dealer non genuine".Before this it gave a very high salt reading and I added NO SALT It went out on Frid night so by Monday my pool may be green. The temp reading was 69F but the temp in 87F. It also was shutting down a couple of times for no reason while set at external. This unit is under 2 years old. I foresee more problems in the future from what I read on the web. I hope not

I would check your salt level with a salt water test strip to see what your reading actually is. If it's within limits, give Compupool a call at 1-888-989-7258. They can give you a specific answer to your problem.

Compupool has redesigned the control cable to the cell. You can buy this cable on our site. Two cable lengths are offered: the part number for a 6' cable is JD363200A-11; the part number for a 15' cable is JD363200B-11

My CompuPool system has a burnt out electrical contact on the plug that fits to the cell. My dealer tells me that due to this cable defect I need to replace the entire control unit. Is that true or can I purchase and fit a spare cable to the existing control unit (possibly cutting the existing cable in order not to open the control unit itself)?
