What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

I'm trying to replace the motor on my pool pump but all these numbers and abbreviations on the motor label are really confusing me. What do they mean?

My pump makes a loud high pitched screaming noise when running. The pump moves the water well but the noise is very loud. Would replacing the seals eliminate my noise problem?

(5 out of 5 stars) Runs quiet and cool!

Now that I understand the “up-rate” terminology I have a pump motor that works properly. This full -rate motor runs much cooler than my 3 previous up-rate motors. Finally have a motor that is right sized for the job. I replaced the driveline at the same time to ensure no more leaks and fried motor bearings. I recommend this motor over any up rated option

The old motor went toes up last season - lasted 5 or 6 years so no complaints. Installed this new motor last week and fired it up-PERFECTO. Seems a bit quieter than the old one but hard to say. In any case, it pumps great.

Recently I have had to replace my pump motor which I did with the same product that I had before. I cannot complain since it lasted longer than eleven years with near constant running during the Pennsylvania swimming months (May - October). INYO Pools was very helpful in helping me order all of the necessary parts to complete the installation. Oh and the free shipping is a bonus.

My old motor was going out so I decided to order this one as a back up. Sure enough, about 6 weeks later the old motor failed. I did the motor replacement myself in about 2 hours with no problems. The ordering and shipping went great, fast, easy, no problems.

Pros: knowledeable staff to answer questions
this motor was the exact replacement for our old one and we had no issues with fitting, etc. Only problem we had was removing the impeller from old motor - had to buy a strap wrench. When that didn't work, we called Inyo who suggested we use rubbing alcohol on the immpeller, then use the strap wrench. Worked great and the rest of the installation was smooth.

(5 out of 5 stars) Excellent Pump Moter Replacement
Reviewed By: PoJo from Clarence, NY ()
Pros: Awesome fit - excellent replacement
Cons: none
Tip to get the impeller off the old pump moter: use a 7/16" open ended wrench - it slides in near the capacitor on the electrical side... rotate the impeller until the wrench slides into place at the end of the shaft and then one person holds the motor and the wrench while a 2nd person loosens the impeller off with bare hands by turning the impeller counter clock-wise.
