I do not currently have a heater. I have a Hayward Super pump 1 1/2 HP. Can this heater be plumbed into my current system, in other words, my pump runs wide open when on, will this work with this type of heater or do I need a variable speed pump ?

Hello. The minimum flow of 30gpm is required to ensure sufficient heat removal from the heat pump condenser, therefore avoiding overheating the unit. The heat pump is designed for nominal flows of 47gpm through the condenser. Attached please find a copy of the W3HP31005T Installation & Operations Manual. Please note the information contained in the Install/Piping Section, page 12. INSTALLATION & OPERATIONS MANUAL A pool pump that is rated at or below this heater's minimum flow rate of 30gpm should not be utilized. Hayward Super Pump Performance Data rates the 1 1/2 HP model at approx. 65gpm with 50 Feet of Head.

I currently have a Hayward Heat Pump Model # HP21002 and it will no longer hold a freon charge. I'm looking to replace it with this model. My pool has about 32k gallons. It is a 20x40 in ground. Is this model looks compatible to what I currently have. I just want to be sure before i order it.

Hello Marty. The Hayward HeatPro Heat Pump, 100K BTU - W3HP31005T is a Heat/Cool unit and is rated 16K BTU less than the Hayward model HP21002. The reduction in BTUs may result in slightly longer (comparatively) heating cycles. The W3HP31005T compact design has the same footprint as the HP21002. If the COOL function is not a priority and the installation site has additional room, you may wish to consider a HEAT only Heat Pump such as the Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 140,000 BTU - 016033 or the Raypak Classic Series Heat Pump 119,000 BTU - 016015
