What is Service Factor?
Reply
Service Factor(SF) is a multiplier that when multiplied by the horsepower of the motor indicates the total permissible horsepower loading that may be carried when the motor is operating at rated voltage and frequency. The most important thing to remember when replacing a motor is that the replacement motor's horsepower times its service factor must be equal to or greater than the original motor's horsepower times its service factor. The Service Factor rating can be found on the motor label. See Step 4 of our How to Read a Pool Motor Label guide.

Why do I need to purchase a new shaft seal?
Reply
We strongly recommend replacing the shaft seal. The purpose of a shaft seal is to prevent water from running down the shaft of the motor and into the motor housing. Water will damage the bearings and cause the motor to fail. A new shaft seal should be installed whenever a motor is replaced. The motor manufacturer can deny the warranty if the motor fails to due to water damage from a faulty shaft seal. To find your shaft seal you will need to visit our Pool Pump Parts Page or the Spa Pump Parts Page and select your make and model.

Why should I purchase a Tune Up Kit?
Reply
A Tune Up Kit includes all of the essential replacement seals and gaskets for the pump. The seals and gaskets should be replaced when installing a new motor on your pump. New seals will prevent the pump from leaking water or losing the prime. A Tune Up Kit will protect your motor and ensure that the pump is working efficiently.

What are the dimensions on the shaft bearings or a part number and do you sell replacements?
Reply
The correct replacement bearing is part number 5270-31. The motor would require two. Here is a link to the bearing.http://www.inyopools.com/Products/07501352012909.htm

1. Watched DIY videos to learn how to install it properly.
2. Turn off the breaker. I took out the pump and the motor together.
3. Took off the motor. Bagged the bolts since there where to different sizes.
4. Took off the power cord, and motor accessories.
5. I built a new power cord. The original was old and weather beaten. I took it to the home store and bought the same parts. Get the proper gauge cord and a new plug. I disassembled the old plug to learn how to assemble the new one. It was easy.
6. Installed the new seal based on the old motor. Simple, but work slowly.
6. Reinstalled the motor blade. Don't over tighten it. Make sure it spins properly or it could bind. Install the safety screw.
7. Installed the pump plate and new seals. I sprayed them with silicone before install.
8. Mate the pump and motor. This is why I took them both off. It's easier this way to ensure the new seal doesn't slip off causing a leak. I put the pump on end and slid the motor in place.
9. Tighten the bolts evenly. Do not over tighten or you could crack the pump plate.
10. Wire the new power cord. I took a picture of the old cord on the old pump and installed the wires the same way.
11. Make sure the plumbing to your pump is on correctly. Do not over tighten.
12.Turn on the breaker.
13. Turn on the pump.
This took me 3 hours or so. I took my time and went step by step. I used the old motor as a guide. I took pictures to use as a reference. Doing it myself saved me 500 dollars. The local pool place wanted 1300 or so to do the job. Plus they wanted 300 more for the motor. It's worth trying to DIY.

We removed the pump assembly from the PVC pipes. We were fortunate that the bolt holding the pump impeller and the pump motor was not frozen. We removed the 4 bolts holding the pump housing to the motor and then were able to use a wrench to hold the long shaft bolt while we turned the impeller counterclockwise. Once we were able to break this bond, the assembly was simple. Attached the new motor to the impeller and then attached the housing to the motor with the 4 bolts. We then reattached entire assembly to the PVC pipes and turned on the pump. Ran perfectly. Total time was less than one hour.

After watching the Inyo videos for replacing a pool pump motor and replacing the shaft seals several times (which are both excellent step-by-step videos), I also searched YouTube and found a video on replacing a Jandy pool pump motor specifically. I'm glad I did because my Jandy PHPM pump had a few more steps to do than the Inyo video that used a Hayward pump. But together, these videos made changing the motor and shaft seals relatively easy. I was worried that after replacing the motor and the shaft seals myself, I would be turning on the new motor and watching a new water leak. But I was pleasantly surprised and relieved of my worries when that didn't happen. The new motor runs smoothly, incredibly quiet compared to my old failing motor, and without any leaks. As an additional note, the shaft seals are easy to replace (no special techniques) and the electrical wiring (230V from a double breaker for this motor) to the new motor was totally simple - two black wires to the two uncolored leads and one green ground wire to the green colored lead - that's it! No chance of screwing it up!

I tried replacing the Start Capacitor but that did not resolve the problem
I then shut off the breaker and disconnected the power lead.
I disconnected the plumbing connections and removed the pump
I have a Jandy filter, so the first step was to removed the basket housing. 8 bolts
I then remove the impeller housing . two small screws. Note the arrow on the covers for reassembly
I them removed the impeller screw. Note: it is reverse thread, and you will need to hold the motor shaft to remove the screw.
I then removed the housing plate to the motor. 4 bolts. The seal is held in by this housing so note how it is installed prior to removing the seal.
Installation was the reverse of the step I described. Always use a new seal.

Noticed old pump was very noisy. Checked and could hear bearings failing inside motor. Checked local pool supply store , they where trying to sell me complete new pump assembly. Being the craftsman that I am I got on Inyo website found the correct pump motor. Had it to my home in a couple days. Removed old pump motor. Installed new pump with new seals and gaskets. Fit was perfect. Wired motor up. Flipped the switch and works great. Pool circulation is better than ever and super quiet.

I have two identical pumps, one for the swimming pol filter and the other for a waterfall feature. The waterfall pump stopped working an would buzz when I turned it on. I initially replaced the capacitor which helped a little as now the motor would spin for a while and then stop.
I suspected a bad bearing. I tried finding a replacement via Hayward but had no luck searching for the pump model number I found INYO and ordered the pump. When t arrived I replaced the bad pump with the new model wired it up and all is now working. Great price and confidence in a perfect match.

Made sure 3 times the breaker was off
Took off the housing bolts and pulled existing motor away from the pump.
Cleaned the impellor and wiped down all the parts going back with the new motor and also made sure to clean the electrical cord going to the new motor to be able to make a clean connection.
I then added the new gaskets and put the motor with the pump connected the wires and tested it. Tt worked great! It took some time but with some wd40 and towels to wipe things down it makes it a fast clean job.

It has been on-line now for over a month with no problems. I would be somewhat lost if it weren't for watching the "how to" video. thanks.

(5 out of 5 stars) Huge savings to be had for DYI pool motor replacement
Reviewed By: Inyo Customer ()
Very easy install, with nearly $400 saving by doing it myself compared to the professional pool service quote. This motor replaced a AO Smith/ Jandy 1hp Up rate / 1.65 tHP motor. The swapping of impeller parts from the old motor to this new motor was effortless, with the addition of a new ceramic seal set. The only issue I had with this motor was one of the wiring contact screws was stripped out. The wiring is set up for push-on type connectors. The motor side connectors are a thin stamped metal item and held in place with a screw. It appears the mounting screw was over tightened during assembly and stripped the stamped threads out. Once I corrected that issue, it was a simple motor swap. The install would have taken me about an hour total, but due to the bad screw it was around 1.5 hours. Motor runs very quite and smooth, and at a typical temperature - rather warm. While my shipping box was not damaged and arrived intact, the box staples had all torn loose, and the box easily came apart. I suggest the shipper add some adhesive strapping tape to hold the box together for longer shipments, and multiple handling environments. I was lucky.

Pros: Quality and Warranty

I replaced this motor in December of 2015, there was a design change on the rear cover over the wiring terminals that offers better protection from water or rain than the original but the motor failed due to a run winding shorting in late July. The motor has a one year warranty, after contacting Inyopools and sending them the information and pictures requested I thought it was going to be a week or two before I heard back if it would be covered and asked them for a time estimate on a decision. An hour and a half later received an email, warranty approved, call this number and we have one shipped out today. I had to pay shipping but do not mind, a new motor would have been much more. Its an excellent product but even more important was the excellent service, something that is getting hard to find these days

My old pump motor died. Our local pool service said they would gladly replace it for $310 + $150 for the service call and labor + $40 for the O ring kit. I went to your site and found that you sell the exact same motor for $180 and the proper Go Kit. I got the replacement motor and Go Kit ordered from you. It came very promptly. I watched the installation video you provided then installed the new motor myself quite easily. Ordering from INYOPools and installing the motor and O rings myself I saved $300 Vs. the quoted price from the local pool service company. I am quite please.

I took the pump apart to see if their was an obstruction. Nothing there, I turned it on while it was apart, it worked. It may need a capacitor. It is back together now, how long it will last, we will see. It has only been 16 months and it may need replacing or work on it.

I had to swap an old motor that died when we had a freeze week in Houston. Even though the pump itself was discontinued by manufacturer, I could easily find the correct motor using the web site information. Motor was the exactly same spec as the original, and cost was way below (like 40% below!) what I'd have paid in the local store for a non-original motor. Delivery was very fast, hassle free. Customer service is attentive in making sure you receive your goods without problems, checks your address prior to shipping, etc. I found the instructions for changing the motor very useful, even if they were not specific to my type of motor and pump. All the important steps for assembly and re-assembly were there. Overall performance of your service could not be better!
