How does one best maintain the Anthony filter batons so that they achieve an optimal operational period? My current set has dozens of small holes. Thank you.

Hi Barry we would suggest regularly Backwashing Your DE Filter and then once a year Completely Disassembling the DE Grids to do a Thorough Cleaning.

Does this item fit 1 1/2 inch return

No it will not, for the 1-1/2" port size you'll need Grid Assy VA-52 V34-144.

Thank you for answering my previous questions. I have one more question. Is DE needed with the Anthony batten filter system? If yes, how much should be used with a 10 batten system and how often should the system be backwashed. I find that the DE becomes "caked on" the filters.

Hi Barry, Yes DE is most definitely needed as the DE Powder is what is doing the filtering. You should be able to find a square footage rating on your filter and a general rule of thumb is divide the total filtration area (Usually 24, 36, 48, 60... square feet) by 10 and recharge the filter with that many pounds of D.E. So on a 48 Sq. Ft this would be 4.8 lbs. of DE. Note that the lbs. of DE is volume and not weight so we carry a D.E Scoop which makes this measuring process very easy (i.e. 1 scoop = 1 lb.). After cleaning the DE grids you should notate your pressure reading from your pressure gauge, once your pressure is 8-10 PSI over your normal clean PSI reading then it is time to backwash / clean your DE grids. Increased pressure on your gauge and lower flow from your return jets in the pool are signs you need to clean the DE Grids.

I want to buy a complete Anthony DE filter grid assembly. My current assy is made up of 4 grids 13.5 x24 and 6 grids 17.5 x24 for a total of 10 grids. WHAT CAN YOU OFFER ?

Hi Terry, Both the Anthony Apollo VA-52 and VA-52-2 us the grid set up of 4 -13-1/2" grids and 6 - 17-1/2" grids. The VA-52 Grid Assembly has an 1-1/2" elbow where the VA-52-2 Grid Assembly has a 2" elbow. You should be able to look at the pipe going into the side of the filter to see if it is 1-1/2" or 2"
