The ECX1040 Bump Handle is a replacement part for the Hayward Perflex D.E. filters. The handle connects to and activates the mechanism inside the filter head that purges dirt and D.E. powder from the Flex-Tubes. Made of Noryl polymer.
Does the handle come with instructions on how to replace it. Is it difficult to replace the handle myself or do I need a pool service guy to come out and replace it?

The bump handle does not come with installation instructions but here they are. This is a relatively easy replacement which a home owner could perform.TO CHANGE BUMP HANDLE POSITION Remove the bump handle grip. Carefully pry the bump cover from the head retaining groove and slide the cover off the handle. Using a drift (or 10 penny nail), tap the pivot pin out of the filter head anchor point, freeing the end of the handle. Rotate the bump handle to the alternate position and align the handle and the head anchor holes. Tap the pivot pin in place. Reinstall the bump cover and grip.

Will this work on the Ec-65 de filter serial #300819(this filter was purchased many years ago? The color and design look different.

Hi Jim, Yes this would be the correct handle for your Hayward EC65 filter. I believe they did make a design change but it still works on older models of the EC65 filter.

Is the handle section with the 3 groves attached by a bolt or by a rivet? It doesn't seem to have a nut on either side?
