how do you install the Teflon ring on the shaft next to the o-ring on a Hayward sp710 valve? Is it split? My old one is broken. It is leaking under the handle.

Hi, Eforman. The teflon ring does have a slit in it so that it can go around the shaft. Our How To Replace a Pool Multiport Valve Spring guide will show you how to go about replacing the O-ring andTeflon Seal - O-418-KIT.

What is the measurement associated with this O-ring? My O-ring measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter.

I have a Hayward SP715XR50 multiport valve. I thought I needed to replace the spring in it but when I took it apart, this piece (O-ring and Teflon seal) was not in it. Should it have been? My water flow has been leaking into the backwash line and I've already replaced the spider gasket. The handle seems lax so I thought the spring might be weak. Maybe I'm just missing parts? Thanks for your help.

That would cause water to leak out of the stem shaft. Please check the housing. Sometime it can become warped or get a gouge in it. If that is the case the valve should be replaced. If the body is in great shape you should purchase our complete rebuild kit. APCK1034. It will provide you with all the necessary orings.

Have you thought about just install a ball valve on backwash line and keep it closed unless you backwash? Closed when running OPEN when backwashing. Generally you have to change entire internal assembly to stop leaks.

If this was missing you do need it for sealing purposes

Your diagnosis seems pretty correct. We recommend you replace the SPX0735GA as well as the spring SPX0603S, the handle should not be lax.

hello my name is Larry I am overhauling a hayward sp710 mutiport assembly. Two questions. 1. Do the two metal washers both go on top of spring as shown in diagram or one on top and one on bottom of the spring? 2. The stem has a o-ring and a fiber spacer, does the o-ring go on above fiber or fiber on above of o-ring?

One metal washer on the top of spring one on the bottom of spring. Place the oring above the fiber and you will be good to go This might be helpful http://www.inyopools.com/HowToPage/how_to_replace_a_pool_multiport_valve_spring.aspx
