Part # 4623-20
Manufacturer Code 272422
Dimensions 8.5" L x 8.5" W x 7" D
After Market Top Valve Assembly by CMP for Pentair Filters - 272422
THIS IS THE TOP COVER, DIVERTER, AND HANDLE ASSEMBLY FOR THE 2" HI-FLOW MULTIPORT VALVE. THIS IS THE VALVE WITH THE WHITE CURVED DOME TYPE LID.
OUTSIDE DIAMETER OF THE LID IS 9".
THE LID HAS 8 SCREW HOLES.
ONE OF THE HOLES HAS A ROUND MALE TAB AROUND IT.THIS TAB IS USED TO PROPERLY LINE UP THE TOP - IT FITS INTO A FEMALE HOLE ON THE VALVE BOTTOM. THERE IS A SMALL TRIANGULAR POINTER ON THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE VALVE TOP AT THE TAB LOCATION.
THERE ARE NO NUMBERS MOLDED ON ANY OF THE PARTS. THE LABEL HAS 27-2123 ON IT.
SPECIAL NOTE:
THIS IS A REPLACEMENT ITEM DESIGNED TO BE USED ON BOTH SAND AND DE FILTERS SO THE REPLACEMENT ITEM HAS A DIFFERENT LABEL FROM THE ORIGINAL ITEMS USED ON COMPLETE VALVES). THE ORIGINAL SAND VALVE LABEL WILL HAVE THE WORD "SAND" ON IT, THE ORIGINAL DE VALVE LABEL WILL HAVE THE WORD "DE" ON IT.
SINCE DE AND SAND FILTERS HAVE REVERSED PORTS, THE VALVE HANDLE MAY HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND PUT ON FACING THE OPPOSITE WAY FOR THE VALVE TO WORK CORRECTLY. THIS IS EASY TO DO ONCE THE COVER IS ATTACHED TO THE VALVE BODY. JUST REMOVE THE SCREW AND REVERSE THE HANDLE. DON'T TRY THIS BEFORE THE COVER IS ATTACHED TO THE VALVE AS THE SPRING WILL HAVE A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE HANDLE. TO DOUBLE CHECK WHETHER ASSEMBLY IS SET UP FOR DE OR SAND LOOK AT UNDERSIDE OF THE VALVE ASSEMBLY. THERE IS A COMPLETELY OPEN PORT ON THE DIVERTER (YOU CAN SEE THE WHITE VALVE COVER THRU IT). IF THE VALVE HANDLE IS POINTING AT THE OPEN PORT, THE COVER IS SET UP FOR DE. IF THE OPEN PORT IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE FROM WHERE THE HANDLE POINTS THE ASSEMBLY IS SET UP FOR SAND.
Will this valve assembly (272422) replace a PacFab 272120 multi-port valve? It also has 8 screws and is 9" in diameter. Thanks, Willie
Hi Willie, yes this is the correct top valve assembly for the Pentair multiport valve that uses the label part number 272120.

Does this part include the main gasket? If not, what is the part number for the gasket I should order? Thanks!

Hi, No the spider gasket is not included. You would need this Spider Gasket 4623-10

Screwdriver
My diverter valve was having trouble rotating and water would often leak into the wrong output. So I removed the top with a screwdriver by hand and discovered the gasket had flattened and worn out, as well as the O-ring in the top valve. In my ignorance, while troubleshooting the bad O-ring, I broke the handle on the top, so I had to purchase this unit as a replacement as well as the gasket. I sealed the gasket into the bottom using a silicon sealant, waited the few hours for a solid cure, applied a gasket sealer on the top, then slapped the new top valve assembly on, again tightening it by hand with a screwdriver. It may be a bit tough to compress the spring while reassembling - this is what gives you that necessary seal. Be sure to alternate the screws while reassembling as if you were retightening lug nuts - put them on in a rotating star pattern. Boom. You're back in business.
