What is the difference between an inline and offline chlorinator?
Reply
An inline chlorinator would be plumbed directly inline with the plumbing. For an existing pool, this would mean a section of pipe would need to be cut out to install the chlorinator. An offline chlorinator attaches to existing plumbing by chlorinator tubing (holes would be drilled into existing pipe to attach the tubing.)

2 questions: Do I need to bleed air out every time I add tablets? The first time I used it, I filled it with water to get air out as instructed, turned on pumped then noticed a small water leak coming from edge of glass... Is this OK? I shut pump off then drained water out resealed the lid and turned it back on. Water level never came up high enough to leak water.

It is always okay to bleed air from the system after opening equipment up. If there are leaks coming from any pieces of equipment then check the condition of parts surrounding the area as well as any seals and gaskets.

The removal and installation was simple.
Tools needed: Hacksaw, measuring tape, Sharpie marker, Slotted screw driver, sand paper, PVC primer and cement.
*If this is a new install please note a check valve will be required so chlorinated water does not back flow into heater / filter / pump.
*If this is your first time working with PVC pipe it is recommended that you watch some youtube videos on installation of pvc piping.
1 - Use the hacksaw to remove remove existing chlorinator or cut pvc to add the new chlorinator. Cut closest to the chlorinator to leave as much of the pvc piping as possible.
2 - attach the appropriate, included, coupling connections to the chlorinator ~ My application was 2" PVC
3 - Measure the length of the chlorinator and subtract the length in each side for the input existing pvc pipe.
4 - Mark the pvc pipe so the end result will be the length of the chlorinator, and cut pvc pipe to size as needed with hack saw. Use screw driver to de-burr the ends of the pvc pipes.
5 - remove coupling connectors
6 - use sand paper to rough the connecting point of the coupling connectors to be glued to the existing pvc piping.
7 - use sand paper to rough the existing pvc pipe to be glued to the coupling connector
8 - Use pvc primer to prime all roughed connection points
9 - Use pvc cement to glue coupling connectors to existing pvc pipe
10 - allow cement dry time as directed on bottle as system will be under pressure
11 - attach chlorinator to couplings and hand tighten. Take care to install the chlorinator with the proper flow direction.
12 - test system for leaks before adding chlorine tablets
13 - If there are no leaks add tablets and turn chlorinator value to desired position

Pros: clear lid
Cons: terrible dial design
the power clean ultra was installed since our pool was new. it works good as an inline chlorinator. the clear lid is great. it does have a major flaw. the dial for adjusting the flow rate is awful. i have had to buy three of these chlorinators because the dial adjuster keeps failing. it locks up completely and will no longer rotate. cmp says it can be removed and cleaned but i have not been able to see how this can be done. the dial rotator is integrated into the body and cant be removed. there is nothing you can do about it. the dial itself is just a sticker and it fades out over time and you can no longer read it.

Love our in-line chlorinator...we set the amount of water which regulates the amount of chlorine dispensed into the water, add 4 x 3-inch tabs to the unit and leave it. Chlorine levels stay relatively constant. Makes life a lot easier not having to add chlorine every day

Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Had to purchase reducers to 1 1/2" should have sold them to me
This product is very well made. My existing chlorinator had been "hard installed" in the line and could not be replaced without cutting it out of the line. This product has two lock nuts, so it can be replaced without disturbing the existing plumbing. The only problem I had was the O-ring in the lid broke the first time I tried to use it. Inyopools replaced the O-ring, and I ordered another one and the silicone lubricant that is to be used. I needed it overnight. They did discount the second O-ring, but I still paid a hefty overnight delivery fee. Being in customer service at an auto dealership, I would have paid all the freight. Other than that, I will still order from Inyopools. Been very satisfied with their products.

Pros: Easy installation
Cons: flow regulator could be easier to read
The product worked as promised and installation was very easy. Minimal plumbing skills required. I previously had a floating chlorinator so this is an enhancement to my pool pump system
